4g LTE icon does not go away no matter what!

Im writing this for my cousin. He has an unlocked ATT branded m8 that he is using on cricket. No matter what he tries the 4g LTE icon will not go away. When he has wifi on both wifi icon and LTE icon are present at the same time, if he turns off mobile data the 4g lte icon is still there. Is this normal behavior? Every phone ive ever owned, when you go to your house from outside the wifi icon turns on and the LTE icon goes away, but on his phone the LTE icon never goes away.

It's normal, but there are apps and widgets in Play that can possibly disable it. Never bothered using one on my M8, but I've used them before on another phone as a battery saving option. This is the one I've used. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...id=it.miabit.android.dataonoff&token=5J36j-_s

Keep in mind this also prevents MMS messages from coming through because they use data for the media. Regular texts still work, though.
