5.0.1 for Nexus 6?

Some of you seems like the ota got screwed and didn't install or whatever.

What are your options? You can wait till google gets their ish together and gets a glitch free ota to send out which could take awhile or you can be proactive and and take things into your own hands and do the side load thing and make things happen now. Just those 2 options.

I get how the procedure can be daunting. The first few times I mucked around....scared ishless. I am pretty sure wug's toolkit can do that painlessly and walk you through the whole thing. Just install wugs on your pc, couple mouse clicks and done. I been doing this stuff long enough that I do everything in a cmd window and type a few commands. But wugs does all that in the background and everything happens with some mouse clicks. Very easy.

Now you could get a bit more adventurous and unlock your bootloader and get twrp (a custom recovery) installed and you could flash a stock 501 rom they have at xda.

The thing about the nexus is it's the most easy phone to recover back to box stock condition of any phone period. Samsungs need odin which is clunky and hangs alot. HTC phones are pretty involved fussing with also.
Point is Nexus phones are 99% unbrickable. They are dam hard to break, software wise. BTW there is also available the official shamu 5.0.1 factory image. That right there is a further foolproof safeguard if anything goes wrong.

So, take your choice. :)

Clearly? Really?

You do realize the vast majority of people who buy Nexus devices are people who want/need the ability to tinker, right? Even if not all the time. Only recently did they really push this as a consumer device. That's what this entire line has been about for years. Should you have to sideload/flash to get an OTA? No. Is it better than whining on a forum attached to a site that not only has links to the files you need, but step by step instructions on how to do it? Definitely. Maybe you should try a more intermediate device like an iPhone first. Sounds like that's more your speed.

Has anyone who has received notification about update and then had it pulled from there subsequently received another notification resulting in successful update? As far as whether or not Nexus 6 is almost exclusively for tinkerers I think its widespread carrier availability answers that question. Just because a percentage of users are, doesn't mean they all are. Be together. Not the same. (TM)

You're funny. Not everyone with a nexus wants to side load or root.
I know I sure as hell don't. I'm tech savvy enough to root if I wanted to but I have no interest in doing so. I purchased a Nexus phone so that I could have a pure Android experience right out of the box.

How were you able to decrypt and turn encryption off? I've heard that really speeds things up! Please tell me how to turn off encryption...

I have a Mac and I have been trying to sideload the update but it keeps saying that it can't read my file. Anyone have an idea of why this happens? I have already checked that adb detects my device. Any suggestions on what I should try or any ideas of what I could be doing wrong?

Funny every forum has its zealots. This is the only way, you don't belong here if you don't do it our way, if you can't understand you stupid and of course you belong with an (insert another fan boy brand here). Would like to sideload. Can't seem to get imac to to run sdk. Offered help or pointed in right direction nah to easy to spout fan boy bull your not worthy crap. Yeah it is not always the easiest to find a computer that recognizes the device to do the side load. I am am a mac user as well, but keep a few windows machines. Once you do have a computer that works it is less than 5 minutes to side load. For windows machines wugs is great for installing drivers. I do not think there are any zealots here. Just opinions. I have often side loaded updates but have not this one. It is almost like they pulled the update. I have till January 9 to decide if I want to keep this beast so no rush to update. No reboots etc here as of yet.

You do realize you are making up crap as you go along right? You are worse than a Samsuck slappy. At least they don't make BS blanket statements about what a device is for.

Look, you can shill all you like, the fact is, you have no idea what you are talking about. Here is a fun fact, I don't want to tinker, and the Nexus devices are the only way to get base Android. Not nearly base, like a Moto X, but base. Sure, I could get a GPE device, but those are subject to the same update issue the N6 is having.

It is cool though, how you think you can speak for every Nexus owner, and you can insult me by saying I am whining. It must be cool sitting behind that keyboard being a tough guy. Go back to your bridge troll.

Nexus devices were intentionally made for developers, and then geeks that wanted to tinker got in on the act. So in a way he is not wrong....if you think so then go over to Xda a tech/geek Hacker site for those that want to tinker and ask about this. Google themselves say that Nexus phones were not made for mainstreem average users. That said you are amazing with this half baked reply just because a few jumped on your band wagon that don't want to tinker. Go over to XDA and you will find yourself in a minority.

You may not want to tinker but many "DO" buy a Nexus for the very reason that he posted....to tinker, now smoke that and call me a troll for telling it like it is....get a grip!

Yes, people also buy a Nexus for pure Android, but most that I know and read about are over on XDA learning how to customize Nexus with developer roms, and flash the latest factory image today not next week or next year.

Annnnd. Same. Blah.

All this sideloading conversation is entertaining though. While I wait out the OTA.

Unfortunately, regardless of how much a Nexus costs makes no difference in Google's ability to get an update out or bug free. They have shown in the past they are more than willing to use us as beta testers and then take their time about fixing it.

Thanks to whomever suggested wugfresh root toolkit. I side loaded the OTA in about 10 mins. If I had known about this earlier I would have side loaded a lot more.

I understood the att does not have bloat. Locked, stupid logo...yes but no carrier apps.
I have the unlocked Motorola version w an att sim and no bloat downloaded on set up.

Even my att store demo had no bloat and the sales rep who is into android like we are in this forum confirmed no carrier stuff is downloading.

If anyone does see some carrier apps on a store demo unit it is because that particular store has decided to do that for customer presentation.
