5.0.1 for Nexus 6?

The official OTA rollout started yesterday which can take several days if not a couple of weeks to get to everyone.
A few OTA updates trickled out last week.
There was no release and then pullback. Most likely a test of the servers.

Patience and every N6 will get it.

Good to know. A lot of us (including me) that bought our phones online at AT&T are a bit more on the edge of our seats waiting to see how they're going to interfere (if at all) with android updates.

So are you saying that those of us who got the update, attempted to install and then nothing happened was just a test of the servers? And if so, you got a source for how/why something like that would happen with a "test of the servers"?

I got my 5.0.1 OTA update on December 8th. I downloaded it and it installed without incident. I also have it on my Nexus 7. If they were testing, all is cool here.

He did say most likely meaning a guess. I would have guessed the same thing. As for why the update failed, it could be any reason including a slight drop in signal quality, making the download incomplete.

What does a slight drop in signal quality have to do with it? For what it's worth, I was on WiFi. The update plain didn't install, and disappeared, nor has it showed back up. This suggestion doesn't hold water.

I sideloaded it last night. Purchased from Mot, using it on AT&T. Never had a reboot but I have had two or three power off events. Always happened inside a pocket so I'm pretty sure it was a button press...

Any drop in signal that can cause the download to not go through properly. Any bit of missing data can cause a failed install.

Bad downloads can happen over WiFi as well.

Side loaded last night. Cleared my cache and checking things out today.

Then why has the update disappeared? I have never, ever, in 7 years of Android, ever seen anything like this happen before.

I think Google royally screwed up. The updates are slower than a frozen drop of molasses, and now they are failing to install, and disappearing.

The official Google support forums are crazy silent on the issue also.

Historically, Android has resumed paused/suspended downloads after waiting for data connectivity to resume.

It might be a screw up by Google. I am just showing how there are so many variables in play. An md5 failed check can cause the no install, not showing up in the directories.

The fact that the update disappeared is due to the fact that it downloaded, so servers think that you have yours already.

I have never seen a million dollars before. Just because I haven't doesn't negate its existence.

From an AOSP M8.

I would sideload it if I knew how to root and all without using a computer or laptop. Is this even possible???

There's instructions on this very site to show you how to do this. You're going to need a computer/laptop, but the process, especially with the step by step instructions, is very easy.

That's even worse then. If it thinks I have the update, then how will it know to re-download it?

The fail becomes more epic.

Got my update just a few moments ago.
Download, update, restart, optimize, reboot.
The whole process took 10 minutes. :)
