5.1.1

I really hope that they do this, why have multiple builds for the exact same device and being a nexus device, do not let carriers control anything - they almost always mess things up. One update to rule them all lol

This is all very confusing. What BUILD should I have on T-Mobile? I have LYZ28E now.

I downloaded the OTA 5.1.1 update for my Nexus 6, which is currently on 5.1 (LMY47D - international model).

I cleared the cache (in the Storage menu), and I'll reboot the phone, and then start the update... Anything else specific I need to, or should do, before starting the update process?

Thanks!

Really? You're on Verizon and using it? I was scared to flash it but if you are confirming it's excellence...
Votle works, tethering works, lte and 3g work, it looks and acts just like 5.1 really.

Once you load it up go into cellular networks, it'll find verizon after 30 seconds or so of the signal bars having a ! next to it, the enhanced lte option will then appear. I then did a quick restart and worked great.

I'm willing to bet LMY47Z rolls out to verizon in the next few weeks, and verizon stays on a standard ota after that. Google will never officially say "verizon is slow as heck so just load any other carrier's ota" but we'll know since they announced the goal to unify builds.

Awesome! Seriously thank you so much for the lightning quick reply. I am going to flash it now :-)

I have Cricket which is on AT&T. No update. My thinking is that because Project FI uses Sprint and T-Mobile and not AT&T that it somehow effects the builds and the timing for them.

For AT&T users, just take out your Sim and pop in a T-Mobile Sim and you'll get the update instantaneously, google really dropped the ball on its flagship phone, smh, I might just go with the one plus two when it comes out!

I think they are doing a good job with it. Ideally the builds would have been unified at launch. But what we're basically getting is one build (in the near future, maybe LMY47Z) that works on all nexus 6 devices which everyone is free to load on their own ASAP (yay nexus!), or you are free to wait for your chosen carrier to approve the update and push the exact same build weeks/months later via OTA.

Its a way of getting around the slow-as-molasses carrier approval process for those who want to load the software on their own. It's brilliant.

They should leave the carriers out of the equation

That's the one...

By the way... Google is trying to get everything back in line... but there were a bunch of kinks to work out with the various carriers to get some stuff ironed out. VoLTE... etc...

Now, WiFi Calling.... yes, this is only on the T-Mobile builds, but this code is going to be part of the Nexus mainline soon enough. For one, thing, Wi-Fi Calling is not really a T-Mobile specific feature anyhow. Google needed it to work for Project Fi, which piggybacks on T-Mobile's network (and their WiFi Calling infrastructure). Secondly, has anyone loaded the M Preview? Go take a look in the Wi-Fi settings... you'll see a Wi-Fi Calling radio button. T-Mobile customers can run M and retain WFC.

Now, ideally, they'd merge these changes into the AOSP mainline, baking in the ability for Wi-Fi Calling across the board, for any phone/carrier... but that would require them to all use the same system... yeah, like that will happen.

My new unbranded Nexus 6 that I'm using on Verizon did 2 updates ending at LMY47E.

So are all Nexus 6 supposed to be on 5.1.1 by now?

One would think... But my N6, on build LMY47E, is still on 5.1

I'm actually considering flashing LMY47Z because I feel Verizon won't update it to 5.1.1

What a nice surprise just now, 5.1.1 hit my AT&T Nexus 6 just now. I was going to write it "finally hit" but I don't even know who controls these now.
