Like said, I'm using a USB-C to HDMI MHL adapter to output my phones sound to my yamaha receiver, as I want to listen to DTS tracks on my home stereo. The receiver sees the signal and my phone, using MX Player, is properly playing the DTS tracks, but for some reason the receiver is only receiving a stereo signal, so its only giving me 2.0 sound. I can't for the life of me figure out what step I'm missing. I even went so far as to install Dolby Atmos on android but that was a no go too. Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. I've verified I have MHL outputting in surround in the settings. Did you ever get this figured out?

I'm not very experienced with this, but I remember an update a while back to MX Player that removed some of the Dolby codecs due to licencing issues. So maybe it's MX that's simply not outputting a 5.1 signal?

Nope, never got it working. I ended up talking to both Yamaha and LeTV support to figure out why. Apparently, though the Max and the chip manufacturer "claim" to support it, in actuality, the Max software does not. Rather, it proprietarily included in only one of their music apps, I forgot which one, its like LeTV Music or something like that. In that app, you can download and listen to music, and SOME of those songs will support surround sound audio, and that's the only time it will kick in. Otherwise, it'll always output mono/stereo. So for this phone, it's not going to happen. I consider this a form of false advertising personally and am a bit steamed about it.
