At this rate this might be the last update we get for ICS. The next update will be Jellybean and I'm guessing most of us will unlock and root so we can get it several months before Verizon releases it.

It feels like Verizon has had 4.0.4 for several months but only started testing it the last few weeks.

Who else is not surprised by the lack of an update?

My neighbor is VZW employee with direct knowledge of the update situation. Apparently VZW stations two employees in an underground bunker with no access or communication lines to the outside world other than a single light which flashes red every minute. When the OTA is ready, the light glows a steady green, at which time the two employees simultaneously turn keys located 15 feet apart, at which point the OTA is released.

Apparently, the green light has been glowing for the last 17 days, but the keys have not been turned. Verizon has a video feed from the bunker but the camera which provides the feed was deliberately obscured after verizon activated the green light. Verizon is concerned that 1 of the employees may have killed his co employee to prevent the release of the OTA. Unfortunately, the bunker cannot be accessed until the OTA is released, because the release acts as a key which opens the bunker to the outside world. My neighbor says that looking back on it, the process was not designed in an optimal manner.

My neighbor confirmed that the contractors who are drilling through the bunker doors will gain access and be able to turn the keys to release the 4.04 update OTA (and this is a direct quote) "in the near future, mean shortly, and possibly within days or weeks."

So you are saying there is a chance?

It didn't occur to me until I read this. I have a bad feeling that this is exactly what will happen with Jelly Bean.

Well if that's the case then if Windows Phone enforces upgrades like they did today with everyone upgrading to maintain access to the app store. If Android can't enforce timely updates then perhaps in the future Windows Phone is the way to go.

Come join the crackflasher club. Every single one of us could give a rats azz about the stinkin OTA if it happens today or next year :p

Yup, I'm on Tapatalk2 :)

Somewhere in this great country sits a chortling little geek sitting in his mother's basement. He is on his iPhone telling his buddy, "Ya, it really was me, I fooled Droid Life. Wanna bet the Verizon servers almost crashed today with all the Gnex users checking every five minutes for updates?"

That would actually be funny as hell tbh. I'm going to hold out a little longer. I just got the phone and it seems to be relatively trouble free. However on one hand I like to tinker, on the other I don't wanna screw up my phone. But the longer I wait for something I already have on my Xoom the more tempted I become.

I am not at all surprised that this didn't happen. Looks like I will have to root and unlock my phone to enjoy the phone at its' full capacity.:D

Rooting any phone will unlock its most potential, even more so with this one. I'm running the leaked 4.0.4 update with the latest leankernel 3.7.0. This thing is so slick, I can't even hold on to it.
Mind you, the phone is somewhat physically slick to begin with..but you can infer what I'm trying to say

Definitely a smart thing to do.

...but on that note, my friends with GNex's that do not root could really benefit from this new update. They all love their Nexi but I'm sure they would really like the fixes 4.0.4 will bring. I hope Verizon gets off their butts and releases this. They're killing the Nexus brand.
