As I said, the sensor is 13MP but it DOES CREATE 50MP images. You said 'technically they arent 50mp images' when they are. Just take a look at the examples out there - very clever indeed.

He's right. It's (4) 13MP images software-stitched to create the illusion of a 50MP image. However, it will always be 4 images. They aren't cohesive, taken at the same time from the same position. If I took 4 physical photos and taped them together, I still have 4 photos. And tape. But calling it one photo would be inaccurate.

It is? I think most reviews I've read seem to indicate the S5 has the best camera. The comparison photos certainly seem to indicate that. That's also true of the video.

The camera was reviewed by experts recently, who determined that the Z2 has exceeded the Nokia PureView 808 as the #1 smartphone camera. The report is linked below. Most phone reviewers are biased idiots who don't know how to professionally do a review with objective data. Look at the data from the specialists who set standards to accurately compare devices. Well, just upgraded (back) to Samsung i8910HD (aka Omnia HD).
I've been using my lovely Nokia E66 (and a handful of applications) till a car decided to hit me at the exact spot my phone was, in my pocket (well the bike is ok, but not my E66 rip)
Actually, I remember I hated Samsung after using the i8910HD and was forced to get back to E66...


Not enough for a laughter yet

Moreover, I've been an official Android hater till the end of the last week (actually until the Z2 got my eye)...
I used Android on tablets and on some mini computers before. Yet never liked it (Even tough I'm a long time unix + freebsd user which don't hate linux I didn't feel like one).

In fact, the new WP8 I had my interest for some time (absolutely love the NT kernel and respect MS). But it's too far from being a full-on mobile (work)station for me (No HID? No USB OTG? No proper call logs? Sorry can't wait for you to mature up WP...)

So I guess I probably can say, I'm here being the only one that has not owned an Android mobile phone before (too many I's there, such an ego).

As being the perfectionist fool I am, the Z2 (and Sony which I loved to own devices of, back in the time, as well as its innovative accessories) catched my eye indeed.

Thanks to you all being friendly and helpful, I've been learning a lot here. Hope to be a happy Xperia user soon...

No, my glass hasn't shattered. But there are people on YouTube who like to use hammers, keys, and blades to test the quality of the glass on phones. The HTC One 2014 was extremely resilient! Now that I look on YouTube, I see that no one has really tested the Z2 in this fashion..

Cool! I'm in Eagan! Do you think we'll get anymore snow before May? It always seems to melt away... and then one more blizzard comes along before winter is officially over lol

I've actually got a 4K camcorder and will be buying a 4K TV this summer and a 4K computer monitor within the next few weeks. So I do have a use for this kind of content. In the interim, as I've found, even down rez'd 4K>HD looks so much better than any HD camera I've ever seen. So even with no 4K display, there's still a use for quality 4K footage.

Here, take a look at this video. I made it last night. I'm going to make another one today, because the lighting was terrible. I always remember to take 4K videos late at night... Anyway, once I pan to the right and stop constantly moving the phone, you can see the 4K really shine, despite the lighting. I haven't updated to the latest firmware yet, which is supposed to make the camera even better. Is there anything in particular you would like to see from the Z2? I can grab some photos and videos tonight.

Couldn't agree more you really cant go by unboxing reviews or even tech reviewers who are Not photographers but rather they are giving you a general idea.

I tend to make up my own mind im not saying its not good to get a generalised idea though

Looks like the Lg3 is on the way now as well. Specs look good too.. i think i'm going to hold off on the Sony till i can compare the 2. I've no interest in HTC or Samsung. I've been Moto all my life but theres nothing good coming from them so its time to move on

Im inclined to agree as much as i think the M8 & The S5 are great phones.

I see Lg and Sony to be more precise at offering a more focused and balanced device.

I am patiently awaiting delivery of my Sony Xperia Z2. However due to delays this is not likely now until early May so i have been told.

So frustrating but not much i can do but wait and wait some more.

From what i have seen its the most media focused device to date all aspects suit me the camera, speakers, the specs and features and a light skin and the build.

I cant speak like i am reviewing it as i don't have it obviously. But going by photo's taken and video, and the reviews its one hell of a device.

The S5 and M8 are very capable and are very nice devices, however they are going off in tangents with finger print scanners (not interested) and camera duo (Not interested) the Xperia is Focused and it delivers a great user experience from what i have read.

Im really looking forward to May

No, I just zoomed in to see if it could manage to zoom during 4K video recording. I thought it might be laggy, but it was solid.

Yeah i agree.. thanks for the reply. I'm going to hang on for the LG3 and check that out too and make a decision from there where i want to be for my next phone.. Z2 or LG3

Well I've been waiting for further assessment Thanks for reminding...

I was hoping for a (32GB + OIS + USB 3.0) Z2 upgrade or while I consider the alternatives such as the one you mentioned.

Actually, I'm not sure if I'll buy one from the next gen or skip for the 64-bit devices (mid 2015)
It's getting harder to wait though.

I'm kind of confused...

The z2 to me seems the best phone so far. Thats why I have pre ordered it.. Y only concern is that apparently not all countries get noise cancelling headphones and seeing as that's an advertised feature I hope I get some.
