5 x Former Palm Pre users - Love Their EVO's

i agree, the average user of webos did not have the full experience if they did not have preware or webos quick install. andriod seems to be a much more mature platform allready and i am not regretting the change from pre to evo.

Thats about the only thing I miss too, swiping to delete. I find ATK for killing tasks in batches easier than swiping them all. I can get used to this no lag too.

One HUGE feature for me is being able to delete batches of emails easily. I have a bunch of accounts and I get several hundred emails a day. I love that it's so easy in the Gmail and Mail apps.

There was a patch for the Pre that would do this, but it made the email app really buggy, so I removed it.

On that note, I think it's ****ing stupid that I have to use two separate apps for email. I know I can use K-9, but that doesn't work with Gmail push.

i'm a happy converter to, not that there was anything wrong with the pre, if i wasn't eligible I wouldn't stress about having a pre, although obviously i want that massive thing on display every time i enter the sprint store. (that's what she said)

the pre was a good phone for its time but now at the rate technology is going the evo isn't going to be the best phone out there in another what 5 months? just add some new hardware to webos and boom

anyways android is cool i'm glad i switched.

ok for any one who used the pre and was on pre load my name was the same there as it is here. if you wanna talk hit me up. im on fring to. let me know. glad to see that im not the only happy former pre owner. i luv my evo. this is my first android device so im still learning. havent rooted yet. little more to it than with the pre, and i dont see the benefits. if some one can tell me who has actually rooted the evo and sees advantages please feel free to contact me. thanks!

Yea but you are a Bengals fan. I don't think we are supposed to talk to each other! iDi

Ok guys so I have been following the EVO since Supersonic and I am a CURRENT PRE owner. On July 1st I will be eligible to switch over and of course it will be done! Also when the Pre first came I hyped it up big time and got 2 of my friends to buy the phone and even one switched service providers. Of course the CraPre has been a really horrible phone and I felt guilty about getting my friend to switch to the phone since it was sorry crappy.

What makes the EVO so great ? What do Pre former owners like about the phone so much ?

I am trying to convince my friends to trash their Pre's and move over to the EVO and I new some ammunition from former PRE owners to show them.

Thanks !

I'm another (soon to be previous) Pre owner- on the waiting list at my local sprint store, hopefully getting my EVO tomorrow :D.

WebOS is an amazing OS/UI, and no other OS handles multitasking as elegantly as it. However, the hardware is decidedly last-get, and honestly feels cheep, especially compared to the EVO. I look forward to not having to worry about my phone randomly turning off if you close the slider too hard (even with the paper jammed in the battery compartment- G.H.E.T.T.O.).

For me, the Pre was a great phone at the time, but compared to current-gen phones it just can't keep up- the lag, plasticky feel, and general sluggishness of WebOS on the Pre is just more than I care to deal with anymore. Even after overclocking my Pre (which I shouldn't have to do, but thanks to those in the homebrew community who made it possible), it was still just toooooo sloooooow. Beyond that, I fear that despite HP's self-stated commitment, WebOS development is dead in the water (despite the amazing homebrew community- shout out to Blubble! Good to see you here!).

Non-Tolstoy version:
Quality hardware (better camera, solid feel/heft, outrageous screen in size and quality)
More mature OS
Bigger developer base with more apps
Did I mention the hardware and the screen?

I am done with Palm I loved the webos but too many little bugs random shut offs from closing the keyboard. Phone freezing up, and the crack that everyone seems to have (me once and my wife once that they refused to replace under warranty) I was getting the EVO on a trial basis, after the weekend I gave my pre away!!!

Launch day Sprint Pre owner here that has come over to android and really really like my EVO.

Luv my EVO. still get to say hello to my pre everyday as now my spouses phone. He luvs his pre coming from instict. But he keeps eyeing my evo. Hes due for upgrade in october so may be 2 evo family this fall

PalmOS user for 11+ years here. bought the Pre at the Sat 8am Launch and kept it for only 48 hours until i realized it was buggy, laggy, cheaply built gimmicky junk. returned it that Mon and went back to PalmOS Centro for another YEAR. bought the EVO on Fri 8am Launch and LOVE IT!

Owned Palm products for last several years..Liked them and liked the pre towards the end...After i had tweaked and overclocked it...However don't miss it...Evo does all that I wanted with palm and more,,lots without hacks..Tons of apps to get and lots of useful things to do with them.....I guess once I get this hacked I will never look back to Palm

Okay, launch day former Pre user here...

In the end, a smartphone needs to function as a productivity device. By that I mean it needs to be able carry out its intended function when it needs to without any unreasonable effort from the user. By that I mean that you shouldn't have to wait several seconds for a key push to register, deal with too many cards issue, worry about oreo when opening closing slider....

While card concept was pretty good, the hardware just simply sucked on that phone. On Evo, I just Do what I need to do when I need to and be done. No worries, no waiting. All of that on a solidly built piece of hardware with a huge screen and high touch sensitivity. That's all.

i can not wait til July 1. I waited for the pre and loved it now i cant wait for my EVO i haven't even gone to BB or Sprint or The Shack yet to play im to scared i wont be able to wait so i live through you guys ...Thanks

gmac3,

Call Sprint and tell them you're thinking about canceling and getting an iPhone 4. Just tell them you want to find out how much your Early Termination Fee would be. Customer service will transfer you to retentions. They will do whatever they can to keep you from leaving. At the very least, retentions will move up your upgrade date. You might even get a service credit. They gave me $75 extra when I bought my Instinct a few years back.

They've also moved my upgrade date by over six months in the past. I'm sure they'll gladly move yours up a few weeks.
