5MP camera - downgrade?

i know which is why i would have thought they'd address that by saying something about how awesome the hardware is or something.

Forget that this camera will be amazing... Worry about sound capture during 1080p videos instead

Re: 5MP camera

MPs alone don't make a good camera. The hardware and software behind it, do though.

Don't be suckered into the marketing that more MPs = better pictures.

yes, but more pixel means more details and 5 mp is not 8 mp also you can make bigger prints if you decide i know its not a point of shot but still.

a year from now 5 mp will be history even more than now is, and you be stuck with it

Lets remember MP = size. Do we want to post or print poster size photos from our phones? I think no. 3mp is good and 5mp is perfect for a 8x10. You can have 12 MP but with a bad lens and sensor it will do nothing for you.

Whenever the guy tapped the screen, it shook the camera. Plus the quality of live streaming doesn't do the pictures or screens any justice.

Re: 5MP camera

I'm simply saying the video/pix looked amazing now you should be concerned with how it sounds during a video.

oh ok. well as long as there's sound i'm not too concerned about it. i rarely take videos. i take lots of pics though and i've since let my regular camera rest (for most things) and only been using phone camera. just hoping that this doesn't mean i have to be bringing my camera again.

but yea, i did notice the camera didn't have image stabilization. i was hoping that was something that was added to the software. :(

Re: 5MP camera

i'll take a good 5 MP camera over a crappy 8MP camera any day. more pixels but worse sensor would just mean more noise and worse pics.

I agree. The camera looked pretty good to me. I once thought that the higher the MP the better the Cameras until I compared other camera to my Iphone.

How can you even begin to judge the picture quality with the really crappy video quality of the presentation on youtube?

Re: 5MP camera

The camera will be great. Trust Samsung with that, as they have never dissapointed. The 5MP camera on the original Galaxy S was amazing. I am sure they are using much better optics for this one this time around.

no I know but it seems like it was not sharp. anyway I'm sure will be good enough more most occasions. we will see a test soon...

Without optical zoom, megapixels can make a difference. Digital Zoom merely crops the picture for you in the viewfinder. So, if the sensor/software quality is the same, then more megapixels is helpful when the object is far away.

Re: 5MP camera

I currently own the Samsung Charge which has a 8MP camera, the panoramic is one of the best features built in when taking photos.
I've included 2 example pictures taken from my phone:

1. lake that I camped at on a very calm day
2011-10-02103722.jpg

2. trying to capture the Seminole chop during the FSU vs Oklahoma game
2011-09-17212912.jpg

The first picture is nicely defined, compared to the second picture where it is blurry everywhere.
With the zero shutter lag coming in the Nexus, that would've made my second picture way more badass when trying to capture the thousands of people around me.

In my opinion
5MP w zero shutter > 8MP.

GO NOLES!!

Maybe because the picture was about 4ft tall magnified on that horrible projection screen.

Ha, all I saw was the second pic and I was like "That's Doak!", then I noticed some of your other stuff. Go Noles!

Anyways to get back on topic, the pics I have seen taken from this device looked good and I love the zero shutter feature. It sucks when you have a slow camera and you want to take a bunch of quick pics of something going on and you can't because you have a camera phone that takes forever between each shot. I'm happy with the camera and don't mind that it isn't 8 MP given all the other features.

From what I've seen from sample shots engadget have, both the front and rear cams are insanely good. Much better than what I'vve seen on smartphones.
