6.0 Marshmallow for the DROID TURBO 2

re: When is Droid Turbo 2 getting Marshmallow?

Any chance marshmallow provides better screen on battery life. For a device with such a big battery, the SOT is complete trash. A fraction of the Droid Maxx and original Turbo.

What's your average daily? Do you you have GSAM?

I do. I'm getting about 5 hours SOT per day. While better than most phones, it's a big step down from the Maxx and original Turbo.

Agreed. I get 5-6 hours as well, but that's running the battery to zero. I keep everything on except for Bluetooth and my screen at half auto brightness. Normally I'd be fine with that performance, but a 3700mAh battery really should be doing better than that. 6-7 hours would be great.

It's possible that SOT will be improved in MM. It does feature software optimizations in addition to doze. I'm hoping that it'll solve the cell standby drain I have on my phone.

Still, the fact that it hasn't rolled out is infuriating. Since Verizon leaked the support page it's obviously ready, they're just dragging their feet now.

Some 2 months ago I was trashed by lots of people here when I suggested that this was reminiscent of the Droid Turbo fiasco.
I guess I was right..

So far.

So your GSAM on the Maxx/Turbo would've read 6-7 hours on average SOT? I spend hours a day on the phone so my SOT is not as high, but overall I end up with more battery life at the end of the day with this phone than I topically did with the T1. The Maxx was a little better, but not drastically.

At this point I think part of it is just perception based on differences in the way the battery stats are interpreted by each device. On the original Maxx, the first 50% would seem endless but once below 50%, it would discharge much faster. This could lead to the perception early on in a given day that it would last much longer than it actually will. And with the T1, a bit of the same, once it got to 30% or so, I noticed a much faster decline. On the T2 it seems to discharge more consistently all the way down to zero, and in particular the last 30% really seems to hold. This will lead to the perception at an earlier point in the day that you're set up to run out sooner than you would've with the Maxx/T1, but in reality when you look at the averages, I find that it's actually very comparable, and better than the T1 by a little bit.

In other words, I think a lot of us here are really subjectively comparing this phone to two completely separate phones, and disparaging the SOT (As in calling it complete trash) capabilities for 5 hours average is kind of ridiculous. I'm not sure what a lot of these other phones with 2800MAH or 3000MAH batteries get, but how many extra hours does an additional 800-1000MAH capacity really buy you? All I know is that all my friends and cohorts continue to run to their chargers half way through the day and I've never done so once with this phone no matter what I throw at it.

This is an excellent point, and one I hadn't really considered. Since I typically charge my phone at 40 or 50%, I'm not getting the full read. If the Maxx would hold a charge better from 100% to 50% and then discharge faster from there (and vice versa for the T2), that would negatively influence my perception of the T2's battery life (and enhance my perception of the Maxx's), when in reality the 100 to 0 might be much more similar between the two phones.

Again, fantastic point.

I'm not the one complaining that my Turbo 2 doesn't get as good battery life as the OG Turbo, that's 1901Madison above me. I've never owned an OG Turbo.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one experiencing that kind of battery drainage pattern. The last 30% really does seem to drain slower than the first 70%. I totally agree with the point you made about how that'd affect the perception of battery life.

However, let's not turn this into another battery life forum. This thread's about Marshmallow. Still no sign of the update

Good point, I'll refrain from switching the subject in the future. It just seemed relevant to a few of the more recent posts about battery life related to the marshmallow update. But my last one was obviously not on the original topic at all. Apologies!

re: When is Droid Turbo 2 getting Marshmallow?

How much you wanna bet they pulled the update to remove this feature.......

I bet you're right! I was reading a review about the Galaxy S7 and Samsung's worried about using external storage for internal storage. Something about they might change that feature on the marshmallow software.

Marshmellow is coming

if your wondering where marshmellow is, so is everyone else else, I am guessing big red pulled the one that was suppose to roll out a week ago, now soak notices just came out for the T2, so I am assuming this is an updated marshmellow now

Interesting! This means there may be a general release in the next few days.

Re: When is Droid Turbo 2 getting Marshmallow?

Will you guys do a factory data reset with Marshmallow?

Re: When is Droid Turbo 2 getting Marshmallow?

Never been necessary for me. If you have real problems you may need to. Many OTA updates and never an FDR.

Re: When is Droid Turbo 2 getting Marshmallow?

Ok. It's just that my horrible battery life may warrant one. We shouldn't have to be plugging in the phone in the afternoon to make it to the evening with just a few hours of screen on time

Re: When is Droid Turbo 2 getting Marshmallow?

My past history is that I wait and see how things go after the in place upgrade, but I've always eventually done an FDR after every major update. My phone is set to back up things (to Dropbox, using the app Dropsync for internal storage folders and using SMS Backup+ for SMS messages and call logs) in a way and using apps that I can do an FDR at any time and not lose anything.
