9/22/2010 EVO Update posted to Sprint Support page

i am not rooted. I do remember jumping on the froyo bandwagon early and had to take my phone into sprint to get it to the correct verson because I didn't wait to the official reslease. This time, I am waiting for the OTA update. Lesson learned but root would definitely be nice when XDA is able to get it done. :D

I was one of these people as well (early adopter), then the official OTA came out. I took this OTA, and was on official Froyo for awhile. About a month ago, Regaw found a method to root this version. I haven't looked back since.

:) The difference between what was leaked months ago for Froyo was that was an official RUU from HTC therefore patched root exploits. The XDA link above is a ROOTED version of the 3.29 OTA. You have to be ROOTED to install it and a result will end up as ROOT intact. Hope that helps... ;)

I saw a sprint employee post on their Facebook saying the update would come tomorrow

If this is the case, then why has Sprint posted it for release today? An employee wouldn't have a clue. Unless they were in the dev department.

If you are currently rooted and follow the link above to the rooted, de-odexed version of 3.29.651.5 you will NOT break your root.

On the other hand, if you accept the official OTA or update.zip leak from HTC then you will most likely lose your root.

FYI

So can I run this on top of Cyanogen 6?

Can one safely assume that once someone DOES get the update, they will post and let everyone know? Then we can stop with all the useless posts confirming that people don't yet have the update. Geez I think we have confirmation from 34 different cities that they have indeed not yet received the update.

I'm waiting for the real update - another day won't kill me. I was one of the early Froyo jumpers and don't need a rerun. I've coped with the pooched Gmail all this time, another day isn't going to matter.

Sprint has some employees posting on Facebook that the release is tomorrow. That they posting for today was to let everyone know of it coming.

Just came through for me in the San Francisco Bay Area. Haven't installed yet because I'm afraid of losing my Unrevoked 3 root. Anyone know if it will? I used the S-OFF when I rooted.
