Funny story,
I am at the DMV yesterday waiting in what is typically a long ass line to get tags renewed on my scooter when I hear a young boy say to me, "is that the EVO?!" I say yes and he says how did I get it already?
I tell him how I got it and say how surprised I was that he called me out on it as I have been using it in public for almost two weeks now and nobody has said anything until him.
He literally gets up from his seat and moves right next to me to get a better look. He proceeds to tell me everything I think we all know already about Android and the EVO. He knows all the details and is every bit a phone geek as I am. I am surprised as I am a 45 year old man that makes my living by knowing all things technical about mobile Sprint devices and Apple computers. He as it turns out has just turned 16 and is there to get his driving permit!
So, I ask him what phone he has and he somewhat embarrassingly takes out his iPhone and says "oh the iPhone" and proceeds to explain why he no longer likes it. He explains the closed nature of the iPhone's OS and how he really wants to get a Android device and specifically the EVO.

So the next 10 minutes were spent with me showing him the EVO and we even did a 2-way video chat with a friend of mine I recently found here on the forums that also has the EVO and we do a quick Fring video chat. I am on 3G only at the moment and Ed is in SF on WiFi. It was still a great connection and the kids jaw dropped to the floor! His number was then called but he left thanking me and saying how he cannot wait to get the EVO.

good story. think about the technology that you had when you were 16. anything close to the latest and greatest smartphone with unlimited voice/data/text/gps/multimedia? we live in amazing times.

Ha! Yes we do. When I was 16 it was 1976 so there wasn't any technology! TV and record players were about it.

imagine how I feel!.. I'm in college right now while all of this new technology is coming out (computer engineering major).. it feels like we can't even keep up! I'll learn something one year, just to find out that there's something new the next year! It's exciting!

OK.....geek in me coming out...if you are 45 years old......how could you be 16 in 1976??? You should have been around 10 at that time??? Sorry....just popped out at me cause you're the same age as me.......

I'm picking on you because I'm insanely jealous that you have the EVO already.......

as you were.......;0)

Wow sounds just like me. (The 16 year old kid) I pass time in class telling all my friends all the Evo's specs. I'm sure they'll all be very happy once Friday comes around.

oh geez yeah bad early morning math! guess that would be 1980 if I were born in 64 which I was! But yeah 1980 did have a few more Tech gadgets but not many I could have afforded.

Man when I was 16 HDTV's were just becoming affordable, rough times ;) ...(4 years ago) lol

Great story man, I can't wait to have mine, me and three friends preordered it together :)

Hey PanzyDog! Glad I could help out with your video chat! Very cool story! Next time I have a chance to show off my Evo, I may call you for a video demo ;-)

Both of you guys are extremely nice to do that for each other. If merely a video chat can sway someone as young as 16 years old and make his day you two are great citizens in my book.

Thanks for the great story.

thats awesome, i wish i could see one used in the wild. i still cant believe they gave out so many free evo's i wish i would have gone to that convention...damn if only time travel were possible lol

im 21 now but when i was younger i was playing dos games on my 133mhz 4,000 dollar computer (i was like 5 or 6 at the time) now my little sisters have dual core laptops. its just crazy i almost cant wait to see what my children will have when they are growing up (dont have any yet thank god but i know the time will come haha)

I wish my parents would pay for my smart phone bill :(. Would make being a college student a little easier. Glad to see you made the kid somewhat happy (and a tad overzealous )

I don't even think we had decent remote controls back then. And cable was just an HBO box on top of the TV!

Ha! Yes we do. When I was 16 it was 1976 so there wasn't any technology! TV and record players were about it.
