Accessing external SD Card from PC over USB connection

I am able to connect to my Samsung GS3 from my PC (Win XP sp3) using the USB cable that came with the phone. In Windows Explorer, I can access all of the folders and files in the internal memory of the phone. I cannot, however, see the removable extSdCard. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Install File manager (Rhythm software). You can access ext SD card w/o USB. Files can easily be moved. Works best for music, photos, and videos.

What size is the SDCard?
Was it formatted in the phone?
Do you know what filesystem it's using (FAT32)?
You may want to just try using Kies Air on the phone and your preferred Web browser on the computer and just ditch USB altogether.
