Accessing PC files from Note 10.1 2014

What is the secret to accessing files on my PC using my Note 10.1 2014?

your pc needs to be on the network your tablet is on. then you can use a file manager like astrofile, and choose the network icon and give it your username/password and you should see you network computers

... and if I wanted to access music files with a media app do I need media app with network capabilities?

I use a ES Explorer and moboplayer combo for accessing media on the network.
