Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

Yes that was the norm back in the 3G only days. But as you can see, the 3G radios are working better for you, so they definitely have an LTE signal issue (but if you have other phones and are better on LTE then it's not that) or their firmware screwed the LTE radios.

Do you have other LTE only features like VoLTE or enhanced services?

Considering I have no idea what VOLTE is I highly doubt it lol

I wish there was a way I could force it to stay on 4g and not keep switching. I would rather force it onto 4g and have it switch off the data if it couldn't connect than have it switching and constantly searching for the signal and draining on 3g coverage

Looking on Google for Telstra specific issues related to the S6, it doesn't look good, it definitely is an issue with their firmware and radios, people across Australia are having the same issue you have, take a look at one of those threads I found. https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Samsung-Galaxy-S6-S6-edge/Samsung-Galaxy-S6-Edge-reception-issues/td-p/449554

Basically in order to have at least some signal people are just switching to 3G but then you'll have the 3G drain issue you mentioned before.

Thank you so much for this link erasat. I'm using it right now with my conversation with Telstra. I literally sent the link to them lol

Just noticed that our friend drone3 has also posted there, so that answered the question I asked him earlier today.

The conversation I had with Telstra tech was certainly interesting. Their responses were a whole lot of nothing

Thanks for the tip on UC Browser, It's awesome. I thought I tried all browsers and I'm quite sure I tried UC a long time ago but this is a lot better than I remember. The transparent mode is great.

6-) Report diagnostic Info - It has been reported by some users that turning this off helps preventing wakelocks, turning it off doesn't seem to affect anything. Go to Settings- Privacy and safety.

I just read this tip the other day, and I think it is responsible for a huge increase in my battery life. I tried turning this off the other day, and I haven't done anything else differently (and I'm still on 5.0.2, thanks Rogers).

I have posted many times on these forums that I was getting a full day (16 hours) plus 4 hours of SOT.

After this change, I'm on track to get a full day and break 6 hours of SOT! (similar yesterday as well)

At 50%, I'm WELL over half a day (I'm over 3/4 of a 16 hour day) and I've already had 3 hours of SOT.

(if you're wondering, I woke up in the middle of the night around 3:30am. I decided to unplug my phone then so the green light wouldn't light up ceiling any longer. I usually have a 7am-11pm day)

I'm on Verizon and don't have the option to turn diagnostic info off under settings privacy and safety.

Happy to say that cell standby doesn't even show up under battery usage anymore :D must've been the push service

What is the push button your talking about. Im trying to get rid of cell standby. Verizon phone.

I didn't quite make it to 6 hours (as I hoped in previous post), but this is certainly the best battery life I've had yet. I went out for a bit and was in a different building, possibly weaker signal, but may have nothing to do with it.

Either way, I had 17 hours on a charge, 5 hours of SOT, and I still had 12%. I didn't want to push my battery any further, so I'm not sure how far I could go beyond that. Probably another 30 minutes SOT, maybe more? Anyway, happy with the results, I'll pay attention for the next few days and try to get an average.

I suppose if I were to double this I could get 7 hours of SOT. But when I'm working on weekdays I struggle to get 90 minutes SOT at 50 percent.

Took the battery down to 10 percent and was able to get 6 hrs 20 min of SOT. This is under normal power and auto screen brightness and the screen was on indoor lighting brightness.

Now if I could just get the cell standby under control.

Erasat I am now 99.9% sure my inconsistency with battery is due to the problems with the phone radio.

This was my battery life today on WiFi and airplane mode switched on

Last week i was working in the basement of my building in the lab environment and man did my S6's battery drain like ive never seen before. Usually i have a good to decent signal with a cell so i never experienced a really bad battery drain due to lack of coverage. I didnt go into airplane mode because my SMS would still deliver, but call quality was very poor and since i was mostly on Edge browsing was impossible. I turned off Wifi but it didnt help much, still needed to charge my phone half way through the day (4 hours) to get enough charge to get me home. For anyone who experiences this on a daily basis, i feel for you...it was a brutal experience. Even the guy with me who had an S4 Mini didnt experience as much drain as i did.

Finally someone who understands the pain!

There you go, I'm glad you decided to follow my advice and try this, like I told you then, this will be your definitive proof that your problem is just Cell Signal (or Radio) and not just other glitch on Android OS or other Samsung stuff. I don't know you, but that would give me peace of mind and at least will save me of more time trying to troubleshoot the issue. I'd definitely keep calling and stalking Telstra until they get a fix with Samsung on this.

When I am at work I can get about 12 hours on mine without WiFi. The reason is I am in an office building with coated glass so my reception isn't great. I do however have no issues with dropped calls. With GPS set to mobile and Wifi at home I got like 17 hours on my battery. I just use the quick charger at work and all is well.

When wifi is on, would it be wise to turn mobile data off to help with the Cell Standby problem and save battery?

That's really up to you, but that's why the quick toggle are great, just put the data toggle accessible and you can turn it on and off as much as you can. Try that and see if it gives you a possible temporary solution until a fix is released.
