Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

There you go, I'm glad you decided to follow my advice and try this, like I told you then, this will be your definitive proof that your problem is just Cell Signal (or Radio) and not just other glitch on Android OS or other Samsung stuff. I don't know you, but that would give me peace of mind and at least will save me of more time trying to troubleshoot the issue. I'd definitely keep calling and stalking Telstra until they get a fix with Samsung on this.

Oh it's definitely the cellular coverage that I'm sure is the issue with most, and especially if the overlapping network 3g, lte) coverages are inconsistent and constantly jumping between base stations. It really comes down to carrier network and coverage area, the longer you sit in a weak coverage zone the faster your battery will deplete.

With that said, there needs to be a better way the OS should handle th4se scenarios...the logic or at least availability to offer ways for the user to manage coverage battery conservation should be implemented...the average user doesn't understand or doesn't want to toggle options... There should be optional presets for scenarios. Just my 2 cents.

It has NOTHING to do with coverage area. If you read that thread the Erasat posted earlier EVERY SINGLE DEVICE on the Telstra network with an S6 device is experiencing this issue REGARDLESS of location. Someone was only 10km outside of a capital city cbd and having the exact same issue

This is to show you how much where you are and how you use the phone affects SOT dramatically. Yesterday I posted my battery usage showing 3 hrs 30 min of SOT at 50 percent battery. Today I'm at work and I have only a little over 1 hour of SOT at 30 percent battery. That's pretty crazy that you can have such a big difference in battery life.

From my experience, the major battery draining issue has EVERYTHING to do with coverage area...again, i am on a different carrier in a different country, likely different bands and very likely a different software base model. My comment you quoted was specifically related to how the OS should take into account the reception trending/pattern and modify settings based on it. It wouldnt solve everyones problem, but its a problem many people encounter on every device, regardless.

You can be in a great coverage area but in an office building in the coverage area and have poor reception.

Telstra tech support told me that they are already aware of an issue with the phone radios affecting 4g coverage but it seems some people seem to think they know more than they do

Depends on the band and spectrum, IE 700 mhz is more penetrative the others.

Try stop using WiFi as much as possible, it totally eliminated cell standby issue. Cell standby went from anywhere between 20 to 35 percent of daily battery usage to almost nothing. I stopped using the WiFi connection at work and cell standby went to zero. When I come home I use my WiFi connection at home and then I can see cell standby start to creep up in battery usage again.

Cell standby means the cell radio is standing by while WiFi is on. If WiFi is off then there is no cell standby. Not sure why such a dramatic effect on battery usage but it makes a huge difference.

Screen is now my #1 battery drainer as it should be. With 40 percent battery remaining my SOT is 4 hr 30 min taking up 12 percent of battery usage.

This has been my battery life today. I have never seen battery life like this on the S6. And erasat as you can see it was on both WiFi AND cell coverage

So, was it good then? Just asking to be sure what you meant, because that for me looks like a very good battery life, even more with all the radios turned on. What do you think has changed for you? I think is a combination of everything you have done so far, and believe me, once your cell signal and radio issues are finally fixed, you'll see that it will be a lot better for you.

What is it that you did to your phone to get results like that? What carrier do you have? It seems like depending on carrier, you can do more with in the phone.

I wish I could figure out why my phone drained so quickly when I take it off the charger. Is it because I have my phone switched off and turn it on once it is finished charging so it has to load all my notifications?

I literally did every single suggestion posted in this thread. I have no location settings turned on. Auto brightness turned off with my screen at 0% brightness. The time I was on WiFi I had my phone on airplane mode because there is something wrong with the radio for 4g coverage with my Telstra network that makes my phone have inconsistent battery life

That's kind of normal, remember, once you turn it on, it begins sync all your accounts, if you have tons of notifications and emails it will download all of them. In my case I don't turn it off too charge and obviously when I unplug it, it already had everything there waiting for me and it also drains 1 or 2 percent very quickly as I'm looking through each of them.

But I think you already know my suggestion, leave it on while charging, just put it in Do Not Disturb mode and mute of you don't even want any alarm or phone call to come wake you up.

I will definitely try this. I just found that charging the phone with the phone switched off charged it faster

Has anyone seen this before? Its showing 1day and 2 hours left of battery.

How often is it recommended to clear the cache from the reboot menu?

Posted via the GS6

You shouldn't be doing that by schedule, it's recommended to do just after every OS update or when you have some issues with the phone. But doing it more often is not going to do any harm, only thing that I can think of is that after it reboots the first time it may drain a little more battery than usual because it will need to recreate all those OS files that run in the background all the time.

It varies. If you aren't having issues, there should be no need. After the small AT&T update today, I tried to see what happens.
