Adjustments, tips and tricks to maximize Battery Life on Samsung Galaxy S6/edge

Has anybody else noticed instagram and Facebook messenger showing up in battery usage stats quite frequently?

I use instagram on a daily basis but Facebook messenger is only a couple times a week and it still shows up every day in my battery stats.

There's not much I can do with those apps given they are system apps and I use them extensively.

I switched back over to Touchwiz after getting fed up of Nova not giving me notifications for Facebook. Couldn't imagine switching back over to Nova now. I'm loving Touchwiz. I get up to date counters for Facebook now

I think is the first time I have ever received this on my phone about an app using excess battery usage.

This has been my battery life today. I need to remember to use greenify before I fall asleep now that I no longer have the auto stop feature on my phone

Hmmmmmm, maybe it's what you've got running? My Google Play services doesn't even rate a listing in the battery stats.

To my knowledge I had nothing running. I always greenify my apps before I go to sleep which is why my standby time per charge is so high

I'm not even fully aware of everything connected to Google Play. So I wouldn't know what all it runs on my phone. Must not be much though if it doesn't even show up in the battery stats.

This is what is apparently included in the Google play services

OK, well, I guess I've got all that going on also. How much does some process have to use before it gets a listing in battery usage stats? I have actually seen google play in their before but it never used that much battery as I recall. Since I updated to 5.1.1 yesterday haven't seen it at all. My battery life seems pretty much the same as pre-update.

Whatever the case may be my battery life has improved exponentially since I switched back from Touchwiz from Nova. Today I got over 16 hours off the charger with over five and a half hours of screen on time

Nice it's working out better for you as I know you were having lots of battery life issues. I finally dumped Nova myself, just thought it took up to much resources. Been using smart launcher off and on for quite awhile, just switching out , back and forth a lot. I've settled on it permanently for awhile now. I like the way the dev updates it so frequently and it is very stable, not using much memory at all. Good you like touch wiz. I just can't handle it.
Re: battery life, not sure if the 5.1.1 update helped or hurt mine yet. Was pretty darn good before the update, now I'm not to sure, but time will tell i suppose. Enjoy!

If you are going to be having your phone in standby for any period of time I HIGHLY recommend Greenify. It has made my standby time go through the roof.

Telstra here in Australia is apparently releasing 5.1.1 for the S6 at the end of this month. I will be flashing back to Telstra as I'm currently using 5.1.1 on Indian firmware. It will be interesting to see if it helps with battery

Thanks, I'll keep greenify in mind should I need it. Waking up to a full battery , as I charge overnight it is rare for me to not make it thru the day and get around 5hrs SOT by bedtime. I keep my S6 running pretty lean tho as I don't need a lot of stuff on it for my usage. I see new comments about RAM issues not being addressed with 5.1.1 on Verizon. Glad I don't have that issue. Not sure why some do and some don't other than what we're each running and how we've loaded up our phones. Had a lot of great phones over the years, but this easily tops all. Guess it's a keeper till it isn't. :)

I did the clear cache after I got finished with the turning things off and I noticed my ram usage from the system dropped to about 800 meg from around 1.3g. Does this sound like it would be a result of clearing the cache?

What you have is really normal on this phone, they run with even less available memory.

Verizon 5.1.1 why is google services 42%????!!!
I have all sync off, location off, wifi search off, bluetooth off, screen on less than 25% and i clear cache every 4 days. What AM I allowed to turn on??? Seems like the only real thing i can do with this phone is make a call. 3 and a half hours of screen time? What a waste of money. I'm so disappointed. Got this phone on launch day. Battery has gotten progressively worse. SHAME ON SAMSUNG

I wouldn't clear your cache so often. It is taking up more resources having to recreate your cache than it is doing any good. Cache should only really be cleared after updates and such. Clearing it so often generally does more problems than good.

Great. Lol. I give up. Gonna be a long 19 months. Is there any reason anyone knows of why google would be so high??

Have you gone into your accounts and looked at what all was syncing? I didn't really understand from your first post if you had everything or nothing syncing. Also how long has it been since you updated? If it has only been a few days and you are clearing the cache regularly your phone is probably in a constant state or turmoil and can't "settle down" so to speak. Do you have location on? I leave my brightness to auto and don't really don't have any problems. Just trying to think right now of little tweaks that could help.

Thank you! Yes i have brightness on very low. I just updated to 5.1.1 this past saturday. I have every single app set to sync off. Location and bluetooth are off unless i need them. I do not allow my wi fi to search for a signal constantly. And i power my phone down every night. I cleared the cache after i installed the update saturday. You think i should just leave it alone for awhile?
