Advanced Messaging Saving Images

I recently updated my LG G5 to Android 7.0 Nougat and now it is automatically saving images sent to me through text messaging in a .temp folder. I have Advanced Messaging turned on and this only happens when someone else that has Advanced Messaging sends me an image. The .temp folder can be seen in the Gallery App. I would like that folder to be hidden or not to download at all. I have tried several things including: try creating a .nomedia file in the .temp folder, switching the default messaging from the stock app to hangouts then back again (this seemed to work once, then when a new image was sent it saved it again), and turning off Advanced Messaging (which worked, but I want read notifications [check marks]). Is there any other solution? Has anyone else experienced this?
