After I upgraded to the latest version of Android (6.0.1), my phone is virtually unusable

I installed the lastest version of android (6.0.1) in late August. Now my phone is virtually unusable. It is SLOW, sluggish, freezes frequently, and the battery drains in less than 2 hours. I have practically nothing running on it other than the operating system. I close all apps at least 10 times a day. I reboot daily. Nothing appears to help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6.
Any suggestions on what i can do?
