After the Moto X (2014) reveal, are you excited?

Did Motorola win you over with the second generation MotoX? Any features stand out as a reason this is a must buy? Or did the reveal give you reason to look elsewhere?

Let's keep this discussion civil and on track please. :)

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I'd really like to know if the Moto Maker is going to be available in Europe. I know they said the phone would be released in Europe shortly, but I don't want to buy it from a carrier store as last year they charged a bomb for the original moto x off contract. From memory I think it started off at £500

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

It honestly seems like a bump in specs, nothing more. I'd wait for more reviews on the camera and battery life.

The new Moto X will have to compete against the new iPhone, the next Nexus, and whatever is already on the market. (I guess you could also throw in the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but I'm not sure if there's much overlap between potential Moto X and Galaxy Note customers.)

It's going to be a tough battle in a crowded market, but I am cautiously optimistic for the Moto X.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I'd say I'm underwhelmed. I had really hoped they would at least beef up the battery if they were making it so much bigger. Maybe not a dealbreaker for me, depending on what reviews with some use look like, but I'm certainly not all in on this one anymore.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I'm excited! The price is right and it's an improvement in almost every way. It's a little bigger but the beautiful screen will I'm guessing make up for it. Still near stock Android is going to be smooth and easy to use for people looking for an IPhone alternative like the original x. I've always said that if people would try the original X, they'd love it. Now with specs to compete with other flagships and premium materials, this phone should theoretically boost Motorola and gain some steam. The metal and wood will really stand out sitting next to Samsung and LG.

I'd be willing to ditch my S5 if Motorola announces a MotoX variant with the Maxx battery. I think its bound to happen and while it will look different it'll still be similar hardware. I just want all day battery life again and the S5 doesn't make it through my usage so I'm not going to be satisfied with the MotoX as far as I can tell.

I do love the premium materials on the MotoX though. Premium build quality with no creaks is important t to me. Its something the S5 has failed with me on.

Agree the battery is not looking impressive on paper. I'm hoping the phone will last a little longer than the original X, which imo was average . Samsung may just have too many software features running all the time which makes them drain quicker I'm guessing.

I get about 5 hours of screen time so I'm not doing poorly battery wise. Its just my addiction started when I had a Droid RAZR Maxx and no phone has come close and I haven't left my addiction behind. I rarely use my PC unless its for something more complicated so all my web surfing is on my phone.

So annoyed about the battery size...

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

Nope. I was hoping it would be MUCH cheaper off contract. I'd prefer to get a phone that's a little smaller than my OPO, but with that price, lack of OIS, and the small battery, looks like the OPO is staying (for now).

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

It's about what I expected, save for a smaller battery. Unfortunately or not, I see phones like the Oppo Oneplusone as an outlier pricewise. $500 while not cheap, was still cheaper than what I was thinking earlier.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

It seems like if you wanted a bigger screen 1080 moto x...here it is. It's cheaper then other flagships, you can customize the looks, and it'll get the unskinned android L damn fast.

They aren't competing on gimmicks, so everyone should have expected it to be a very straightforward announcement.

What's important to find out now:

1. How does the battery life stand up with the new screen and CPU?
2. How much better is the camera?

The 2 questions that I need answering before I bite, especially the first 1. Everything else looks really nice in my opinion.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

As of right now my gut is telling me to walk away for a few reasons...

1) Battery life looks like it might be an issue. However I need reviews to confirm this one. So I can wait a little bit longer. Removable battery would have fixed this issue with everyone though.

2) Camera looks nice. But I had higher hopes for it. Coming from an M7 it would still be a small upgrade though I think. Again I gotta wait on reviews for this one.

3) It looks ugly. If they don't have a non-leather version WITHOUT having to pay more for the backing then to me its just ugly.

4) The price for the 16 gig is just not gonna happen. $500 with no SD card is the biggest issue here for me.

Maybe I'm just being to nit picky but I have to keep this device for a good year or so. So looking at it on paper is not looking good IMO.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I am Meh. I will definitely buy it unless something better surfaces in the next month, but they have had a few missteps. The announcement has been a cluster, and that is a buzz kill. The battery size is very concerning, but we won't know until later on if it should be. I was really wanting the power button to be part of the dimple. It's not very good looking, but I am a function over form guy. The bezels could have been smaller. 3gig of ram would have been nice.

Other than that, it's a solid upgrade and probably a solid phone.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I think it looks amazing...but I seem to be the only one. The white/metal/bamboo makes my shorts happy... :)

Well not everyone can be the same! :P I'm glad you like it and I'm sure others do as well! Its just not my cup of tea I guess in the looks dept.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

After such a long wait I am very disappointed - battery should be bigger if non replaceable, no SD memory slot and only 16meg, and too big! If I have to go for a phone that size I might as well get the SG5 or HTC M8. Maybe the HTC Remix will be a better mid size phone for me. Too bad as I really wanted to go with Motorola for my next phone. :'(

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I feel disappointed.

Visually, I think the front looks really nice but the back just looks ugly with the gray around the sides, the bigger M, and the flash ring. The back just makes it look like a cheap phone.

I have the same concerns about battery life and camera. While battery life was not terrible on the original Moto X, I didn't think it was great. It would get me close to a full day but not quite there.

I think Motorola cheaped out on the battery because they are claiming that a 15 minutes charge will add 8 hours of phone time so if it doesn't last, you only need 15 to 30 minutes to charge.

I am also surprised and not surprised by the price. I don't think this phone will sell too well overall (here in the US, if your name is not samsung or apple you do not sell very well) and especially at $500 for 16gb so I expect this to drop in price over time like the original Moto X.

I will wait and see the reviews but I am not counting on this phone anymore. I had the Nexus 5 and battery life was terrible with the same battery. I just can't imagine Moto being able to tweak this enough to make the battery life great.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I'm cautiously excited. Can you use an unlocked Moto X on Verizon?
