I've been trying to switch my apps' battery usage to unrestricted but it immediately gets reset to "optimized" as soon as I leave. How do I fix this?

I heard that this helps in solving this issue where my apps quickly restart after I leave and re-open it. I'd be glad if there's any other way to fix this.

Welcome Android Central forums. It may depend on which device you have but you also need a certain amount of RAM for this as well. I won't throw out numbers because they would be made up but it could be lack of RAM that is causing this issue for you. And if your device knows it doesn't have the RAM to keep apps open in the background it may be auto adjusting these settings because they are unsustainable.

I was going to suggest that you add the apps you want to stay open to your "never sleeping" list which prevents apps from sleeping and keeps them awake when in the background. If you want to look at this setting, it is typically in the same place as your battery settings and the options to "put apps to sleep". On Samsung this is in Device Care.

Let us know what phone you have for better advice.

I don't see a benefit of setting many apps to unrestricted. If I understand correctly the difference between "unrestricted", "optimized" and "restricted" when I read those setting options, an app that is set to "optimized" isn't necessarily going to be restricted as such will be determined/suggested by the device after a while and as Vid indicated, as part of the lists of "never", "sleeping" or "deep sleeping" apps, lists that one can also manually edit when the device presents its suggestions. For me, I think I have a preference for almost all apps to be "deep sleeping" so they do not ever try to do things on their own in the background that I didn't initiate by actually using or opening the app. For me, I do want some specific apps to be able to do periodic checking and processing on their own, such as Calendar, Email and some very limited social media feed-like apps. In my settings, those all show as "optimized" and then not as "deep sleeping". I also periodically check for what apps might once and a while show-up as "sleeping", and then normally move those to either "deep" or "never". If I could, I'd use the same concept for trying to control app usage of mobile data and wifi.
