Alternative to OtterBox Commuter?

Hi all,

Just bought a Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL for my son and I.

My go-to case has always been the OtterBox Commuter. Unfortunately, OtterBox confirmed to me today that they will not be producing a Commuter for the Pixel 2s.

Does anyone know if a similar, dual layer case that has the same type of plastic on the outside layer? I really, really like the feel of the plastic OtterBox uses. It feels nice in hand - very high quality.

I just got the Incipio DualPro. And while it has a great look and great fit, I cannot handle the "soft-touch" outer shell. I'd really like to find a case that feels similar to the Commuter.

Any suggestions?

I got the Symmetry series for my 2xl. I'm in the same camp. Always used commuter series, but thought I'd give the Symmetry a try. It's pretty much exactly the same as the commuter, except that it's one piece and does not cover the charging port. With IP67, I guess I don't worry as much about the port being exposed. It's also easier to remove/install being one piece. I'm quite happy with the Symmetry series Otterbox.

Hey. Thanks for the feedback.

Is the Symmetry plastic or rubber on the back?

The back is plastic and rubber inside works great if you have Verizon near you. They have them in stock I bought mine there same price as online

Same here, I've always got the commuter too. I think it's the best case out there. I sent otterbox a email expressing how pissed I was that they are not offering the commuter for the Pixel 2 XL.

I purchased the Symmetry case for my wife's xl to try. But one of the things I liked about the commuter was the covers for the ports because I carry my phone in my front pocket and the covers help keep lint out.

I always cut the port covers off of my Commuters. lol.

I'm running by the VZW store today to check out the Symmetry.

I've been using the Symmetry since the day I received my Pixel 2 in the mail. Normally, I hate cases but because I buy my phone's out right from Google I'm to afraid not to have a case on it. But this Symmetry Case is pretty good. Not to bulky not to thin. The only thing that scares me is how hard it is to get off. I'll take it off every once in a while to clean my phone or just use it naked for a few hours but before I start my day I pop the case back on.

Bought mine from a Verizon store along with the glass screen protector they sell. (The screen protector sucks btw)

I just got the Symmetry case and I'm not impressed at all. It definitely doesn't offer as good of protection as the Commuter and it is just as bulky in my opinion... The reason why I don't think it offers as good of protection is because the edge around the screen doesn't come up as high to protect the screen.

But the biggest problem I have with it is it is so flipping hard to get off. I had to push one corner of the phone out using the camera hole and then pry the phone out the rest of the way... I seriously felt like I was going to to bend the phone, and then when it finally came free the phone almost went flying across the room... thankfully I was holding onto the phone tightly. I don't even want to put this case back on.

If this Symmetry case is going to replace the Commuter I'm done with OtterBox... I'll never buy one of their products again if this is the case [pun intended].
