Hello,

Android 11 on A51. A friend sent me an MMS that reads "Current Location" as a contact. When I tapped on it, it wanted permission of which I forgot. I did not save the contact but the website address in the contact is a legit apple maps address as it begins with maps.apple.com, etc.

I don't know what this is and I forgot the permission I granted of which I would like to undo.

Has anyone encountered this?

Also, I cant find the default app permissions for messages or contacts on the internet. Everything listed in the search is way off basis for an easy question.

thanks for responding!
I can get to the list of permissions, but when it comes to having Messages needing access to a new permission when its a contact is weird. Contacts would have already been in the list which is why I'm confused. I cant figure out what app would need a new permission for looking at a contact in a Message.

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Apps, select your Messages app. Is Location permission granted? If so, turn that off. The default permission for Location is off, so if it's on, it's likely that you turned it on for that message.

Everything is allowed except location. I was wondering if something beside Messages needed access to view the "Contact" that only has a location attached. The contact is named "Current Location". we checked his phone and he sent it somehow. he doesnt understand his iphone 12 much.

its a head-scratcher. i am leaving for the day but will upload photos of stuff if needed tomorrow.

thanks so much!

Can you post a screenshot of what you mean and are you using stock message app?

Are you certain it was actually asking for a permission, or was it instead asking which app you wanted to use to complete the action of opening that "Current Location" contact?

That's why i mentioned a screenshot so we can verify the same things , looks like we find out tomorrow when they be on .

B. Diddy may be on to something. The only reason I have been asking is because I don't want one of my apps to have access it shouldn't have. I couldn't think of anything but messaging permissions to check and couldn't find a default list (the internet is flooded with questions) so i thank you all that have helped! I cant think of another apps permissions to check.

here are some screenshots I hope I uploaded correctly -

i do not see push messages or broadcast channels. i don't know what those are without a search.
UI 3.1.
i am also seeing a very high "One UI Home" Battery drain Ive never seen that i keep a keen eye on. it happened last night. i turn off everything that would cause a battery drain, black screen, turn off screen always on, go through apps i dont use and turn those off, etc....
average use today is 7 hrs.
average use over 7 days is 8 hrs.

Maybe because I have the unlocked model , you probably have carrier.
You can force stop the launcher One UI home under apps and watch next battery cycle
