Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI22 latest build WITH IMAGE

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

Bump! Darn it I need some good news re: GB. A leak, a new ROM something! Anything!

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

yeah, looks like this forum is pretty much dead... :(

This forum is far from dead. Most of us just have no new news to share. The latest we know is Sept21 there was a build, that didn't translate into a leaked rom. Right now, it's a waiting game for the new OS to be released. The leaks were favorable, but not without their own flaws each. Should be easy enough to iron out the wrinkles left.

The sad part is ice cream sandwich will be out most likely for a while before we get gingerbread.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

Don't worry, someone will hack a version of ICS for the Epic.

sooo tired of samsung dragging their feet. At this point im having BIG doubts about getting Epic Touch. This being my last yearly upgrade I will wait for december. By that time Prime will arrive. How many updates did nexus s get already? And how many did "we" get in the past 6 months? Exactly!

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

I love my Epic but this will be the last Samsung phone I will ever buy. The updates are taking way too long. ICS is coming out already and we're still waiting for GB, party foul. Sadly to say... i probably will be switching to the Iphone in December when my upgrade is available on Sprint. I know and feel that the Android system is better than the apple. but my phone will be up to date for a year....cuz the new iphone will be out

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

...and if the ip5 on sprint will be a world (cdma & gsm) phone as rumored so that I can use any european simcard in it, then I won't have to leave sprint for gsm...

They made us wait for eco5 and now it is taking forever to bake GB? No sense to reward them for dragging their feet.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

I don't understand why they just don't push out a stock version of GB without any TouchWiz. Its an EOL device. If the hold up is TW, drop it. They won't have to worry about the phone after that...

Yeah, I'm kind of having my doubts too about getting the ET4G. I like the phone, but I'm thinking my next phone should be a Nexus for sure. Here's to hoping the Nexus Prime (If that's what it's even going to be called) is going to be out before the end of December on Sprint.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

Woo Woo ! Loving the fact that more and more are thinking about Nexus...

I'm not bashing the normal devices which require carrier/manufacture support for updates but many users do realize after a while that waiting on any carrier or manufacture no matter how quick or slow they are just blows...

As far as putting the blame on Sammy or Sprint/Verizon/AT &T, etc. etc... I'm not sure whole is to blame and I'm not so sure any of them are ever going to admit who is slowing down updates.... Is it really Sammy or is it the well known hoop of hoops that the US carriers put devices through with updates ... The manufacture makes the base then the carrier wants their bloat or whatever little extras thrown in, things don't go as planned so they run back to the manufacture for fixes and workarounds... back and forth it goes.... Nobody wants to claim they slowed down the process and take the blame...

Google... They make the OS and the common Google apps, they are tested and used first on the Nexus S/ NS4G/ Nexus One, etc.. so they are optimized for those devices then thrown to the lions den for the rest of the manufactures/carriers to chew on and tear apart......

So I think the choice is obvious when you want what works you go with where it was tested and designed with....

Little food for thought for you benchmarking junkies... Stock Nexus out of the box run in the neighborhood of 2000+ scores.. Custom ROMs and kernel combinations overclocked can hit in the neighborhoods of 4000+ scores... Thats on a single core processor people, a processor that is outdated too..

I'm not saying go run out and grab a Nexus S/NS4G because I will admit the hardware is getting outdated and doesn't stand up feature wise completely to the current devices but we all know once the new Nexus hits its going to be on par or above par with the current devices on hardware goodies and put that together with it being Pure Google your gonna have one heck of a device.

My overall review after a month plus with the NS4G... I give it a 8.5-9.0 .... Its not without its little hick ups here and there, electronics are not flawless but overall I'm really pleased with how well it just works....

End of story....

Paul,

I think about Sprint/Samsung with the Epic 4G and it truly is a shame that this great device never got the attention it deserved (most likely due to the EVO 4G). It's been forever since I ran Froyo (stock) but doesn't it still have wifi connection issues left unresolved?

GB has been teased to no end, only to have things get really nowhere. Some issues seem fixed, some are way worse. I've now crashed my SD card twice, because EH17 random reboots like crazy. I stupidly keep using this release cause everything else for me is pretty solid. More solid than the other releases of GB for me, just the damn reboots. Probably need to just seek out the custom froyo roms. Has to be a new leak coming soon, right?

Moreover I was looking at all the space bloatware from Sprint has. I don't use Touchwiz (though I don't hate it), don't use Asphalt 5, Memo, Nascar, Media Hub, Music, Don't need 2 different Navigation services, also now they tacked Google Books in there too.

It's a lot of space we can't remove. The apps are all fine, I just like the choice, maybe I like the kindle or nook app better, but because space is a premium for me I now just use google books. Plus I can't stand things like not being prompted for an update, when it's there. Anyone else ever noticed that? Qik, voice search, google search, media hub, facebook etc.... Don't show up to update until you have installed an update. Meaning none of them show under my apps in the market until you manually search them out and install an update. You would think all the crap Sprint loads on the phone would be found in the Sprint section of the market, my god wouldn't that make sense.

I'd trade my phone for the Nexus S 4G, but it seems like a waste at this point in time. I hope the Epic Touch users get great service/support, it is a great phone, but I am not holding my breath. Nexus Prime please, not ready to go to the other side with an i5!

All valid points Mobius... Its a shame Epic users and all Galaxy S users in general have been teased and toyed with since launch of this device... I hope they learned something and will do better with the SGSII but everyone said the same thing coming from the Moment that Sammy would do better with the Epic on support... Didn't happen :(

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

Really, I have netflix, it runs well, GB isn't neccessary. I'd like a fix to the open the keyboard, wait 3 minutes for the app icons to rotate, but otherwise I don't really have any issues.

Yup. I was convinced they would support it. They didn't. Just a couple more hours before sprint gets a smartphone with excellent support, and I'm probably going to jump ship.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

Well, there it is, Sprint to get the iPhone.

what to do, what to do....

Looks like a nice phone for the Fruit fans but still no 4g support? No removable storage/sdcard?

I think Fruit did a basic job of pleasing its current fan fare but I don't see anything there that would want to make an Android fan want to jump ship....

The comment about it selling a "billion" phones.... I don't think so.... I think Android is going forward and not even bothering to take names of the dead left in its path....

Bring on the new Nexus baby.... Now that is gonna turn some heads and make you forget about that Fruit phone :p

I know, even some of the Apple fans are very disappointed at Apple. They've had a year and a quarter to make something of the next iteration but they just pretty much gimped that opportunity.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI21 latest build

I rarely if ever see 4g connections in my area, and having a removable sd card is nice, if I don't have enough storage to begin with.

don't get me wrong, I love my epic, it's a gorgeous screened piece of kit, but the fact of the matter remains, it's being EOL'd, and samsung/sprint aren't burning up any records getting GB rolled out.

I don't know about any claims for a "billion" phones, doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, the only number I care about is the one I'm probably going to buy.

I've been looking at the nexus, and yeah it's a tasty looking phone, but it has at least in my mind some competition for my phone bucks now.
