Android 8 swipe to unlock with 2 minute no lock time

On Android 7 and below, I could set my phone not to lock for a period of time, but if I hit the power button, it would go to the lock screen when I hit the power or home button, but I only had to swipe. Now on 8, it just goes back to wherever I was. This is annoying because it also does it when I plug it in or put it on the wireless charger. And then I have to hit the power button again instead of wait a few seconds for it to turn off. Is there anything I can do, or is this just another one of Android 8s horrible security setting changes like having to enter my password every 2 days?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? And sorry, but I'm not quite following -- are you saying that now, when you press the Power button, it opens immediately to the homescreen, and not a swipe-to-unlock screen?
