Android auto?

Anyone having trouble with android auto with their razr plus? It seems I have to flip open the phone and unlock it to connect even though I have AA settings to connect to a locked phone. My vehicle(2020 canyon) only has wired connection. Anyone else?
It hasn't been consistent and I've been trying to figure out what;s going on the past few days since having the phone and so far that is what it seems is happening.

You just have to press power button so that the outer screen turns on while it's connecting, you don't need to open the phone and the display doesn't have to remain on after it's connected

Yeah I tried that on the way home and thought it may have been a coincidence when I unlocked the outer screen. Glad it's not though so thanks for your reply. Wonder if that will ever get sorted out on either Google's or Motorola's end to work without button presses since it is set to connect to a locked phone.
