I personally own an iPhone...and I hate it. The only reason I haven't replaced it yet is because I jailbroke it and my iPhone is quite a bit better. Anyways, I am wondering why do you like Android? I am thinking my next phone will be an Android and I am wondering what advantages the Android brings?

Openness and customization ability
Various form factors and designs
Don't have to hold it a certain way
And so on...

Things that you can only do by jail breaking the iPhone can be done easily from apps within the Android Market on Android phones.

for instance:
-tethering over bluetooth/usb
-wifi syncing with iTunes
-install apps not in the Market

On top of that, you get stuff like:
-widgets
-REAL multi-tasking
-User upgradeable storage (microSD)
-Free turn-by-turn GPS navigation via Google Navigation
-Ability to drag and drop files when connected to computer via USB
-No need to use iTunes for music/apps/etc
-Syncing with Google contacts
-choice in carrier and handset (every major US carrier has at least 2 Android phones)
-live backgrounds
-Upgrade/replace battery
-Don't have to worry about Google blocking apps they don't like

The best thing about Android is CHOICE. You can choose any carrier and then any phone they carry. You can choose to replace the battery or upgrade the memory anytime.

Apple chooses what they want you to be able to do. Google lets you choose. It really boils down to that more than any other Android vs. iOS argument.

Well, a few of those things can be done on a jail broken iPhone like real multi-tasking, generally the ability to drag and drop files through SSH, and the ability to choose a carrier ( through unlocking the phone) but it truly doesn't have much to offer. Thanks for some more info about the Android! I didn't know to much about it till a few days ago

You shouldn't HAVE to jailbreak it to get these things though. Once you jailbreak, then you have to be really careful about updating your phone.... Android has no such issues. I just really don't like that on the iPhone, Apple gets to tell you what they think you should be doing on your phone.

I know about apples extreme ways, and the update issue is more then a pain. For example, with the 4.0 update, I have to decide whether it is worth it. If I update I will lose many third party apps, simply because the developer didn't update them, or may never update them. However many apps on the AppStore will require 4.0 or greater.

Honestly I am only updating because of that as well as digit zoom. You have to use a program or change your localhost file to downgrade your device, and for those to work you need your UDID ECID number, which changes every firmware so if you don't upgrade to it, you won't ever be able to have that firmware.

Apple makes me sick. The iPad made me even more sick and all the problems with the iPhone 4 makes me very happy.

I tell you a small true story, I was driving over the weekend to my friends house who is a HUGE iPhone fan boy, my wife heard a song on radio she liked, she shazam'ed it got the name and went to our mp3 site and downloaded it straight to her EVO and and installed it to her play list, when I got to my friends house i told him what we did and he said he cant do that threw his browser cause it wont allow him to download any mp3, he only has to use the istore. Where is the freedom in that, and now with the new iOS, people think it is totally new, but if you step back and look at the functions that were added to the new iOS it is nothing new on other systems, like on iOS you can create folders and have multi tasking but this is old on Android system, so as you can see iOS is nothing new on other platforms just new to the iPhone community cause they have no idea about the othe platforms and think that iphone is holy grail but in the truth of things it is far from holy and far from the best. Dont get me wrong there is no perfect phone not eve Android or iPhone are perfect, they all have pros and cons, you just have to pick what best is for your life style, get phone that suites your life style and not your life style suite the phone, I think with iPhone you have to change your life style to fit with iPhone cause there is no customization, what you see is what you get, with Android you can do what ever you want. MY wife went to Aplle store yesterday in NYC and saw the the iphone and said it is so small compared to EVO said she no like it and would not get it, and said people in store nasty. and she regrets getting laptop with ipod for the kids. Once you play with the big screen of EVO you would not want to get anything else cause evo makes everything else look smal. But this is my opinion cause i have 3 EVO's it does not make EVO the right choice for you, but for me it is. So try out the EVO and you will see, if you dont like it you can return it within 30 days. Good luck to you

In response to joek1971. I agree completely with you. I have the Incredible but I find it funny how Jobs acts like he created "folders" They try and make it sound so new and ground breaking. And as for the music. I can use music junk to download for free right from my device. Its great when your on the go. I've even used amazon mp3 store (which I prefer over Itunes) to buy a few albums. Plus on amazon everyone I've looked up would be a few dollars cheaper. Generally songs would be $1.29 with apple and $.99 with amazon. Albums maybe $9.99 with apple and $7.99 with amazon. Still amazes me why people would want to pay more than they'd have to just to use itunes.

I be honest with you, I have not touched a Apple product since 1984, when I bought my first Apple IIc, used for few years then jumped to PC. But since few days ago I bought my daughter her first laptop she wanted mac, so when I sat down to play with it i realized how simple it is to use, and all the software she would ever need is right in front. I understood Apple thinking about there products, K.I.S.S ( Keep It Simple Stupid ) so this is why people love there products cause not a lot of thought has to go in to using them and that includes the iPhone. People like us Android users love to play with gadgets and love to customize, root, etc... our phones, people that use iphone dont know how to do it they just happy to use phone. Thats why it is such a hype to them, even making of the folders is something totally new to them cause they never looked around whats around.

Both joek1971 and Shafe75 have very good points. I too recently made the switch from an iPhone to the HTC Incredible and I can personally say that I will NEVER go back to an iPhone! The customization, openness and widgets are just a few examples, but the biggest reason is being able to fly on Verizon's network.

Again, the Incredible isn't perfect and the iPhone had some very nice features. But I expect all of the imperfections to be ironed out with future software updates - so I'm not worried.

Like others have echoed it's all about modifying the device how you like it. I used an iPhone for about a year and what took me two hours to do on my iPhone (jailbreaking, modifying, tweeking) just to setup the phone the way I wanted it took me about 10 mins on my Nexus One. A few things were folders, status monitors, turning off the network data, and a few other things. So far I haven't found anything I can't change if I don't like it. A few things I've replaced is the browser with Dolphin HD, email client with K-9 and added customizable folders with Apps Organizer. Again, these were all very easy and painless to install and get running.

I refuse to buy a product from a company that tells you "you're holding it wrong" even though it's an obvious flaw in design. gg Jobs

News flash now there is a proximity sensor problem to boot with the holy grail iphone, guess it is not so holy after all. But it is true you can customize the Android anyway you like, especially with HTC Sense. But hey we all can tell you all the pros and cons of both phones, you have to find what phone suites your life style and not your life style suite the phone. Remember with EVO you can hold anyway you like. Had to throw that in.;)

Good thing I never got into apple. I don't know how easy it is to customize Android because I have never used it, and I am excited to see the android port to the iPhone 3GS, it is already there for the 2G and 3G. I don't find customization too bad on the iPhone, but maybe I am used to a hassle. The apple fanboys truly do drive me crazy though, I think they are way overpriced for what they offer
