General Android OS Question:

Is it similar to windows OS that when you install and un-install apps/programs it will leave remnants of the old app in the Android OS (registry key equivalents-if they exists, folders, etc)?

Basically, I just go the Epic 4G (coming from blackberry) and I've been trying a bunch of apps installing and uninstalling and wondering if once I get everything the way I like it if I should factory reset my phone and then just install the apps I know I want?

Looking for the pros and cons of such an action. Also, if I were to reset, is there an app that can save my homescreen layout (shortcuts, widgets, bookmarks) so I don't have to re-program them all again?

Any advice for a noob would be appreciated.

The idea of a factory reset has always been far and away the least desirable event in my life and frankly, it is rare that the real need for it is there. Tracking fun time (what you install/uninstall) goes a long way toward reducing the need for drastic non-fun activities. A soft reset at times goes a long way toward keeping the device happy. In fact, my Evo requires a soft reset every stinking day in order to ensure the Bluetooth functionality of the device functions properly.

As for saving things, bunches will probably say you have to be rooted or feeling no pain in order to save everything.
