While I don't participate in Betas, I DO pay close attention to the progress of a build. Since this is about 6 weeks or so from final release, I gotta say.. I'm feeling mixed about this one. This new UI... is... confusing to me. From the icons in the settings/quick settings to this whole gestures change .. the whole look of it ... I'm just having a tough time seeing their philosophy.

I just downloaded and updated. after Alex said that it's pretty much daily driver material. I am fine with gestures, but the persistence of the back button makes me wonder why. I like the "iOS style" cards in multitasking actually but I kept the nav buttons for now. do you think that will be an option in the final release or will we be forced to use the gestures?

they have to find a different way to get to the app drawer or recent apps , you swipe up and both pop up as if it don't Kno which one to do first..if you you tried the iPhone X or 1+6 they do it better

I use the right hand button for recent apps and a swipe up gets me the app drawer. Not having any issue.

Recent comes first with a small swipe....if I want App Drawer it's a longer swipe. It's all in the same swap so it shouldn't be that bad

You shouldn't have 2 things pop up to get into one of them it's poor choice in my opinion ..like I said in the x and 1+6 it just feels much much better how they did it. I was hoping they were going try something different as the betas went on , I've also tried the button way and you hit the recent app it's like stuck between going in app drawer or recent app both pop up. just not feeling it doesn't feel fluid

Factory reset my phone. The battery was pretty bad but hoping it will be ok.

Issues on reset:
1. Alexa app now having issues
2. No Google Pay
3. Snapchat (and bitmoji) won't login.

We aren't forced now. It's not even on by default...

I guess this is what I mean... It seems like they may be trying to have a place in both worlds and not doing either with exceptional focus. I get that they're trying to introduce a new design language, and maybe they feel this is the best way to do it, but the build should flow. Introducing a "pill", but keeping the nav bar area and not capturing any additional screen real estate.. Maybe Android P is just meant to be transitional

I just flashed a new ROM on my ol' Nexus 6 called Pixel Experience. Nice, smooth ROM, but the devs did a wonderful thing with the "new" DP 4 "theming" option in Settings. They kept the basic Automatic (wallpaper based), Light and Dark options, but they split them into two separate optional settings: one for Background color and one for Notifications!

So if you select a Dark background, you get the same dark quick settings, dark app drawer & dark Power/Volume toasts, but you also get dark Settings pages! If you opt for dark notifications, by god you get dark notifications & other UI toasts. So civilized. So simple.

So what's yer freakin' problem, Google??

Yeah maybe... Hearing this could be close to final they should of tested different options see how it worked out. Just not fluid enough for my liking.

I've heard a rumour that early software on the Pixel 3 still has both options. I have no doubt that the Pixel and Pixel 2 will retain both options for all of P's lifespan.

If you do a long swipe you don't see the recent apps.

I generally keep my animations at .5x so it keeps them, but they are pretty darn fast.

^^ Exactly what I do.

I am late to the beta party as I have been using an S9+ but installed it yesterday.

Overall I really like it and am enjoying the gestures and overall feel. The dark mode though is imo a waste of time until it applies to all system menus etc and I am also amazed that there is still no option to schedule the AOD, or is it buried somewhere I have not found yet?

By the way, my Google Pay works.
Mine did until I did a factory reset. It fails safety net now. My banking app (NatWest) refuses to allow fingerprint login as well. This happened on one of the 8.1 betas as well back in December. But Google did warn about CTS failure in their bumph about the beta.

It's been fixed. Clear data on the play store app if it's still not working.

Allowed me to add a card but not use in shops. Even after clearing data
