Android Pie

hey guys. I noticed the brightness slider is really different. I keep my screen relatively low but now I have to turn the slider almost all the way up for it to get to a normal level of brightness.

Just the scale has changed I believe

Yeah, the brightness slider has changed. Now it's more gradual instead of a huge jump in brightness before 50%. At first seems a bit weird but it's actually an improvement.

A few things I'm happy with from this update.
1) BATTERY STATUS ON AMBIENT DISPLAY. I don't know WHY that couldn't have been pushed out on Oreo... Only complaint is it's so stinkin small and it's shaded so it's not easy to see at quick glance or if it's bright out.
2) Being able to draw on screenshots without a third party app (one of the things I missed from my Samsung)
3) I think I can finally have my Gear S2 accept calls while on my car Bluetooth
4) Improved battery life

Gestures are nice but I use Nova so it's not that big of a game changer for me. I do think being able to copy text from a recent app window is pretty neat.

Something I noticed though is that it appears that they removed the "battery saver" location setting... Am I missing it? I mean, the battery life is definitely better so it's not THAT big of a deal, just thought it was interesting that they removed it.

2 nitpicks.

Easy access to System UI Tuner seems to have been removed. I don't like having the alarm clock always resident, I always turned that off but it's back on and I can't find the option to turn it off.

The phone (Pixel 2 XL) seems to think I have a notch. If I have more than 4 notifications I get a dot to indicate I have more, despite having PLENTY of space to show them (since I have no notch). I want to see as many as possible in the notification bar.
For system tuner there is an app to download. I mentioned it earlier I think.

In the search box type system ui. Then select system UI demo mode.

Click TRY

Then it opens system ui

did you guys notice that they got rid of that white Haze that they used to put at the bottom of the launcher when you had a light colored wallpaper? That always drove me crazy, for some reason if you had a light wallpaper they would lighten up the bottom of the screen. That's gone now.

Yeah, to bad they didn't get rid of the small glow on the status bar when using an amoled black wallpaper with high brightness.

Yeah always used adaptive/auto brightness on all my phones so no reason not to. Hate adjusting brightness manually and I have no issues the way it's managed via adaptive brightness.
sorry one more question. are you going to use the Adaptive brightness?

I found it it's annoying me already LOL I'm in bed and have my brightness set to where I want. But every time I unlock the phone it keeps dimming the screen.

Gestures are nice, but far from perfect.
I was spoilt by Blackberry 10 which was miles ahead with its gesture navigation.

I know its been articled already but Nova doesnt give the full overview screen so I've gone back to stock launcher for now.
Seems like those smart replies in notifications are for messenger only, never seen it pop up for Whatsapp. so thats more of an app thing than OS. FB messenger seems to have a version of it too.
Honestly not much has changed but everything is very smooth, very stable, so I'm happy with that.
Battery needs more time to judge

Not until you mentioned it and I was on Beta

You may have to find the sweet spot that you can live with.

The Battery Saver setting is in Settings>battery> so it hasn't been removed :)

Pie installed, all good except Text sending sound, I seem to have lost it. Using stock Text app and can't find sound sending setting.

Yesterday, after searching for "send message" sound setting, making sure it was on, and rebooting, I still had nothing. Put the phone, Pixel 2 - Fi, on charger last night, and when I sent the 1st text this am the sound was there.

The battery wasn't real low yesterday, so my GUESS is the battery status wasn't the cause.

Maybe the "send message" sound was tired from the updating and the excessive heat we have had here in New England. Who knows...
