I do not like the new volume control. Why is it's default for media volume when I'm not listening to anything? It bugs the hell out of me.
The Battery Saver setting is in Settings>battery> so it hasn't been removed![]()
But what if I'm not listening to music and just want to reduce the ring volume. So much for AI.
I'm talking about the location accuracy setting called "battery saver". Before there was regular, GPS only and battery saver but now there's just regular and gps only. The Battery Saver setting is in Settings>battery> so it hasn't been removed![]()
I find I'm adjusting media volume more than ringer. Usually have my ringer set at a volume I'm generally good with and don't need to adjust
Can't win... A lot of the articles I've seen are happy for the change, of the mind that the default before was annoying.I think the point is that if you're not listening to media, there's literally ZERO reason to be adjusting the media volume. If the phone is just on the home screen or locked and you're walking to a meeting or into a movie theater or something, it's now extra complicated to adjust the ringer volume rather than just holding the volume down button.
Sorry, missed your post otherwise I would have quoted it. I tried to read all the posts before I added my comment but it was my first time viewing the thread so the post count was a bit overwhelming. Lol.No not battery saver...he's talking about a location setting. I mentioned this much earlier in this thread and no one commented. In Oreo when you went into the location setting screen there was an option for either high accuracy or battery saving location. That seems to be gone in Pie.
It's also a much easier check if you're about to listen to something in a quiet setting. Easier to avoid one of those sudden awkward "holy crap that's loud" moments. Haha. I don't generally need my ringer to be at different volumes so I like this change as well. I'm either going to be somewhere where I need my phone to be on vibrate or I'm not.I find I'm adjusting media volume more than ringer. Usually have my ringer set at a volume I'm generally good with and don't need to adjust. Plus I have vibrate on. But if I'm playing a game or watching a video relaxing around family I can easily turn the volume down rather than go through volume settings and turn the media down. But everyone uses their phone differently.

This has actually been one of the most requested changes. There's apps specifically for this
I wouldn't say there's zero reason. If I get up early and want to lay in bed playing some mobile games it's now great I can lower the volume easier without having that initial blast waking up the wife.
Maybe make it selectable through settings then? "Default volume type for volume rocker". Maybe have 3 options - always media, always ringer, context-dependent. I guess it kind of goes against simplification, but there are arguments on both sides.
It was easy enough to adjust media volume before opening the media with earlier versions of Android - once you hit the volume rocker, tap the down caret on the volume slider and slide the media volume slider. I'll have to try on my Nexus 6P later, but that might have even been possible from the lockscreen. With Pie, the phone needs to be unlocked in order to make the ringer louder or quieter (sometimes I just adjust the volume level, not switch between silent/ring) which now makes that simple adjustment somewhat cumbersome.
I usually just turn on do not disturb. If your going to a meeting or movie just put it to vibrate via volume rocker and hit the bell.
Yesterday, after searching for "send message" sound setting, making sure it was on, and rebooting, I still had nothing. Put the phone, Pixel 2 - Fi, on charger last night, and when I sent the 1st text this am the sound was there.
The battery wasn't real low yesterday, so my GUESS is the battery status wasn't the cause.
Maybe the "send message" sound was tired from the updating and the excessive heat we have had here in New England. Who knows...
so I'm reading all over the internet right now that Android Pie is officially out for Google pixel phones. Has anyone downloaded it yet? Would you recommend doing a wipe and then a clean install of the OS? I might try to install it later
I installed it on my Pixel 2 and it has been nothing but trouble. It started with some of my apps glitching and crashing. Some apps won't even open anymore. This evening when I went to unlock the phone the screen turned black and green. I'm unable to navigate to my settings. All I can do is power off/restart and reboot in safe mode but that hasn't helped. Apparently if safe mode works than its not an LCD issue but a hardware issue. I'm very annoyed and wish I had of waited before installing Android 9 Pie. If anyone else has had the same issue I'd like to hear how you went with resolving it? Thanks.
