Android Pie

It started with some of my apps glitching and crashing. Some apps won't even open anymore. This evening when I went to unlock the phone the screen turned black and green. I'm unable to navigate to my settings. All I can do is power off/restart and reboot in safe mode but that hasn't helped. Apparently if safe mode works than its not an LCD issue but a hardware issue.
1. If apps are glitching, crashing or won't open at all then that's an application problem - contact the developer of those apps and provide them feedback about the problems you're encountering. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps; sometimes that makes a difference.
2. I don't know about the black and green screen when trying to unlock, but if it doesn't do that in Safe mode then it's some interaction with a 3rd party application causing the problem.
3. Your last statement about Safe mode is completely incorrect - if the problems go away in Safe mode then it's NOT a hardware problem: some 3rd party software you have installed is causing the problem.
Your best bet would be to perform a Factory Reset, setup as New (so that you don't immediately contaminate your clean OS with a bunch of doubtful apps and settings) and then slowly install the apps that you need, being sure to check each one for correct behavior before adding others to the matrix. If you find an app that's misbehaving, report it to the developer and then uninstall it so that it doesn't cause problems with other apps that you're going to install.
Finally, if you don't like Android 9 (Pie) then you can reload the final Oreo build and just use that. If you need guidance on how to do that let us know - it's relatively straightforward, as long as you have access to a computer (preferably Windows-based).

I'm coming straight from stable O. This thing has revitalized my phone. Battery life is fantastic, even scrolling has improved.

On point (1) Night mode basically makes everything black as opposed to white. (You can also select that on Display > Device theme now and select "Dark"). Night light turns the screen redder so it's easier on the eyes at night and it doesn't keep you up if you're reading at night.

On point (2) you can move the Google search bar position if you're using Nova Launcher.

Thanks for the info.

Just updated yesterday and my only complaints so far.......I hate the clock being in the top left corner and the new recent app cards suck. I'd much much much rather have the stack back.

Hmm, I used to get notification sounds in my ear when listening to media and another notification comes through, that seems to be gone. On a related note - when on a call I would get a simple beep, that may also be gone.

The clock I thought I would hate... But on the beta I got used to it quickly. Doesn't bother me at all now.

The clock is very important to me as I use it in my stock trading with the option added to include "seconds". I adjusted to the new position quite quickly.

I activate the seconds option and I don't see the seconds in the notification bay or my lock screen..
Am I missing something?
Thanks

I only see "seconds" on my active screen. I don't see "seconds" on the lock screen or the notification bay.

Correction.
I also see "seconds" displayed on the Notification Shade.
The only place I don't see "seconds" displayed is on the lock screen.

I updated my Pixel 2XL to Pie and it is a very nice update with many new features. There is no need to do a clean install because the update utility works beautifully. It is a very big update and takes a long time so be prepared.
Once you download, or beforehand, watch a full feature you tube video or you'll miss some of the excellent new features and struggle to use it.

Does anyone have any issue with trying to cast using their chromecast??

Nope. I have Chromecast devices on each of my 3 TV's and casting to any one of them works perfectly. I also have a Chromecast audio device on my stereo system and casting high quality audio from Google Play Music also works perfectly. I love my Chromecast devices!

Loving this update. My battery life is even better. But the real improvement is Bluetooth connection. It vastly got better. My only gripe is the clock moved to the opposite side.

Hello, everyone. I downloaded Pie a few days ago onto my Pixel 2XL and since then, I've noticed that the caller ID that appears on my Huawei Android watch now says "Private number" every time my phone rings. The phone still displays the proper caller ID information. It really bothers me that I now have to pull out the phone to see who's calling, which is why I got the watch in the first place. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and could possibly offer a solution? Thanks.

I actually JUST figured this out, I think. The WearOS app on your phone needs permission to access your contacts.
