I have been scouring the the forums looking for feedback on email apps. I am not a super user of email, but soon my employer will start to let us put email on our own devices and ditch the BB. I currently have 2 email accounts set up. I have a Gmail and an iCloud account. Gmail is my primary. I tried the stock app, but didn't like the way it worked.

Then I tried the Gmail app, but I couldn't get my iCloud emails unless I forwarded them, which I didn't want to do as I like them separate on my computer. Plus, deleted emails continued to show up although they were tagged as deleted. If I delete something I really don't want to see it anymore.

I tried K9, besides being ugly, it didn't do a good job of syncing, leaving deleted emails on my computer.

Along came Inomail, which isn't bad and is probably my second choice at this point. Enhanced Email -EE - (trial, thank goodness) left my inboxes a mess. Push did not work as advertised and syncing back and forth was poor at best, leaving both my computer and phone inboxes a disaster.

At this point I am getting frustrated, but resigned to not be completely satisfied with email on my beautiful new phone. Finally I read some positive feedback on Aquamail and gave it a try. THIS IS THE ONE for me! It works and acts exactly how I expect it to act. It has a tremendous, almost daunting amount of choices within the set up screens. I was able to configure it to do exactly what I wanted. Gmail push in real time, iCloud on a less frequent fetch. Syncing is great and my inboxes on both devices are clean. All by sub-folders within Gmail can be brought in and set up individually. Some need to be push and some not so much.

For any of you searching high and low for a great email app give Aquamail a try. I am very happy another poster mentioned it. Thanks!

The pro-key price seems a bit high by other android standards. Is it really that good?

I have not paid for it yet as I have only been using for about a week. Unless something goes terribly wrong though, I will pay for it. It's worth giving a try.

Does it support Exchange? I use my Google mail via the Exchange/ActiveSync option because the jerks at work in the IT department think that it's a good idea to block ALL IMAP and POP email ports on the wifi network.

The Gmail app works if I manually fetch (must use HTML) but whatever method it uses for push doesn't pass thru the firewall, so I never get new mail notifications on wifi at work. But everything goes thru perfectly if I use the Gmail Exchange option (though obviously that requires an email client other than the Gmail app).

Not sure about exchange. I already have 2 accounts setup and that's all that's allowed on the free version.

I just got my GS3 too and am very frustrated with the stock email app, especially for my Yahoo mail. I DO like the way the app deletes emails and looks, though MANY of the emails I receive at the Yahoo account CANNOT be read at all.. It appears the stock app does not allow HTML graphics or text (emails sent from Constant Contact, etc.). I sure do NOT want to have separate email apps for EACH account. I'll look into the Aquamail but I'd really like to know if anyone has used it with Yahoo and if so, can they view emails with graphics, etc.

Thanks.

I have the paid version after trying the free version and have been using it for about 3 weeks..I am successfully using it for 7 email accts on 4 different ISPs. Set up both automatically and manually (when needed) is straight forward and easy to get done.

By the by, if you fail in auto set up mode go to manual and make sure the ports and encryption info automatically entered by default is what your particular acct. requires. The two instances where automatic account set up failed for me this was the problem which was easily fixed in manual mode.

It does autosync and IMAP push from my experience. It is the most customizable when you choose to use the full option menu. I don't use exchange but I believe it is supported also.

As far as the price, well compared to the cost of MS Outlook it is darn inexpensive. And most importantly to me, it works better than anything else available on Android.

What you say is true for the stock email app default settings but I am pretty sure that the settings menu lets you receive HTML formatting as well as automatically download images. You may wish to check out the stock email app settings menu carefully if you haven't done so already.

Thanks cataloochee..I checked the setting for the stock email app and there are none for viewing HTML formatting, which sucks since I actually like the app.

I installed the free version of Aquamail and indeed it does display HTML emails which is good. However, I will say that the set up design is NOT intuitive at all nor is the deleting email design. It appears I'll have to buy the full version to add the other email accounts I have since the free version only allows two.

I actually really liked the set up and design of the stock email app, but not being able to view HTML emails is just bad. I also don't like the fact that the stock app often uses a black background which if outdoors on an AMOLED screen is impossible to read.

Has anyone found a way to improve visibility outdoors with this screen? Pretty challenging. I cannot disable the puddle sound even though it's unchecked in the sound settings.. Hmmmm

After an exhaustive search for a good email app I installed and purchased Aquamail. I had settled on K-9 but it was too "Fugly" and attachments were getting corrupted. So I then tried Aquamail, I think the price is reasonable and well worth it. I am a heavy email user and so far love Aquamail.

Ahh, very cool. I just read this and am giving it a try. Very nice integration and options, thanks. It looks like a keeper.

I had it and liked it but I had already paid for Kaiten months ago with my TF101 and had problems with $6.50 on top of that. Maybe I will try it again. Thanks for the post

Re: Another e-mail thread - My quest is over HELP!

Few questions....
I bought this app based on your guys comments here. Seems good but I have a few problems...

Is your push instant like it was for me on Gmail App?
On aquamail, I think I have PUSH enabled on all my accounts, but my email notifications are coming way late....anywhere from 10-75 min after email actually was sent to me. it?s like the PUSH only works intermittently? Even when I open the app the new email is not there until I manually refresh it.

I have 2 Gmail, 1 hotmail, 1 att/yahoo all on there. Issue applies to all accounts.

Please help...

Long press on an email account. Once you do that you can set the account options, which include sync options for each mailbox and sub-folder. I have my Gmail set up on push and new emails hit my phone before my computer or iPad. It's pretty quick. I have some of the sub mail boxes set up for 30 minute sync intervals, daily, or not at all. There are almost too many options, but once you figure it out it's pretty amazing.

I googled instructions for Aquamail: AquaMail: English: Getting help - AquaMail

I've tried a new one today. Mail.com mail... been using for about 8 hours now and like this one the best out of all the ones I've tried.... gmail, stock email, k9, aqua mail.

bgl321.. Am curious if you've tried Aqua mail and how it compares. From the screen shots it appears it supports HTML format viewing, correct? The thing that bothers me about Aquamail (free) is that it only allows two accounts, which isn't a deal killer since 2 of my accounts aren't used much. I've been happy with it so far though.. And what's all this about tons of updates with Mail com? Thanks.

I did try aqua mail and I dont really have a good reason as to why i didnt like it. it functioned fine. Did think it had way too many options. It just wasn't for me. As for HTML, yes I believe it does. I haven't seen any updates for mail.com in the short time I've been using it.

I tried AquaMail and am back with Kaiten. Labels are the main reason. It is bad enough that you can't create a new label from a phone mail app but then with AquaMail it seems like you have to then create the link between the server Label and an AquaMail folder. At least with Kaiten, while you have to go to the server to create the label you get visibility and access to that new folder with just a sync from the phone.

Anyone know of any shortcuts around those issues? I liked AquaMail except for the way it handled the labels/folders stuff.

I guess I may try Mail.com and see how it works.
