Hi all,

I am trying to fix a HTC Velocity for a friend, it is stuck on the White HTC logo screen at bootup. The phone is an Australian Telstra release of the Vivid/Holiday called a Velocity.

The phone was completely stock, I beleive it got to this state after the battery drained completely dead. I can talk to the phone via FASTBOOT USB and I have sucessfully unlocked the phone via htcdev and relocked the phone when trying RUU.

I have tried running a few different RUU including the two Telstra ones from here: AndroidFiles RUU

RUU_HOLIDAY_ICS_35_S_Telstra_WWE_3.25.841.4_Radio_3.02.4740.09_34.20.701040.19_release_246698_signed.exe
RUU_HOLIDAY_SENSE3_5_Telstra_WWE_2.27.841.6_Radio_3.01.4720.09_34.06.701020.02_release_231121_signed.exe

Both the Telstra ones on androidfiles seem to be older than the software on the phone (3.44.841.3) and I get a:

Error [140]: Bootloader Version Error

I've tried other RUU posted on this forum and elsewhere but get a:

Error [130]: MODEL ID ERROR

I have tried turning S-OFF following Unlimited.IO thinking S-ON might be what is stopping me from RUU older versions, but as part of the juopunutbear process the phone reboots so gets stuck again at the HTC logo screen.

I would appreciate if anyone has any pointers.

Thanks, Ken

Since you already unlocked the boot loader, why not just flash a stock ROM? There was another person on the forums who had the same issue as you, but the recovery wouldn't flash.

Hey, it's worth a shot, you already factory reset the phone by unlocking the boot loader.

Nothing to lose, something to gain.

Hey OperationA7X, thanks for replying to my post. Can you recommend a stock ROM?

I can't get into Recovery either, choosing Recovery from the menu takes me back to the HTC logo hung screen, so I can't choose a file to install from the microSD. Could I perhaps get away with a valid PH39IMG.ZIP which the phone checks for on HBOOT?? I haven't been able to find a download link that is still alive.

Regards, Ken

There's this one, has a lot of APNs, so it's sure to work with the Velocity. You don't have to be S-OFF, you can just flash the boot.img manually.

[CLOSED][ROM] - ICS for HTC holiday (raider, velocity, vivid) stable and fast - xda-developers
Thanks again for your help.

I have downloaded the Telstra htc holiday.zip from this link. Should I just rename this file to PH39IMG.ZIP? I can't choose a file from SD as recovery causes the phone to hang. I suspect that I might have issues as the link to boot.img that is labelled MUST is dead.

That's just already extracted for you, the original boot.img is located inside the .zip file, you should see "boot" as soon as you open the .zip. You will have to flash that manually. As for getting the ROM to flash, I've never heard of flashing a custom ROM that way, only the stock ROM and system.img or boot.img. I guess it's worth a shot, although flashing it from a custom recovery will work 999/1,000 times.

Just noticed, I need to be S-OFF too, I can't get to S-OFF via JuopunutBear. I think I'm officially stuck.

It recommends that to flash antennas and whatnot. I flashed that ROM once upon a time ago, and I will always be S-ON. So really, all you need to do different than the S-OFF method is
MANUALLY flash the boot.img from the Fastboot menu and you'll be good to go.

Hi OperationA7X, Just thought I'd let you know that I didn't manage to progress this.

The HTC Velocity was starting to get low on battery, so I put it on charge. It never came back. When you power it on the screen backlit flashes briefly no image then nothing. I was able to get the HTC logo to come up briefly a few times by holding in the power button while plugging in the USB power. I tried leaving it for a few days, but it seems the phone has entered a deader state of dead.

Thank-you so much for putting the time in to try and help.

Regards, Ken

That sounds like a failed battery...
