Any chance of QI charging?

I would not use wireless charging if it did have it. I would just use the quick charger anyway.

Who cares what everyone else is doing? Wireless charging is slow. What's the point of charging a phone in a car with 4G, GPS, and bluetooth on if your wireless charging can't keep up with charging your phone? I've been using quick chargers in my cars for the past 3-4 years. It's obvious you don't have a quick charger in your car or you wouldn't have said every other company. Apple included wireless charging but their phone doesn't have a big of a battery.

Some of us don't like to plug in the phone unless it is needed. Just put it on the charging dock in the car and it maintains my charge while I drive. Also at night in bed much easier for the midnight message or when you wake up in the AM.

There is a difference in maintaining a charge while you drive and actually charging the phone so the battery percentage actually increases. Qi chargers in cars are retarded. If I was in an accident, chances are I'll be able to find my phone because it will be plugged in so I can easily call for help. Your phone will probably be thrown from the car.

Not plug in the phone? My HTC 10 has a USB-C port. I love plugging my phone in since it can be done in the dark. Not sure how having a phone plugged in at night affects anyone.

I would not rely on being able to find my phone connected to a cable in event of an accident.

You are right on some points and wrong on some. The question is more about the trend. Not everybody carries their charger with them so it's not like they can walk into a Starbucks and say hey can you plug this in for me. Instead they have charging mats on the tables and couches for people to place their phones down. It seems like wireless charging is popping up everywhere, now that Apple is in the equation I am sure we will see a lot more places include wireless charging. I will buy the Pixel regardless of Qi charging, but it would be a nice to have. Yes I know the phone e is aluminium and that means it probably is unlikely....

You can still plug your phone in if it has Qi charging if you'd like. People do it all the time. So this is moot ..

You also list one example of where folks would Qi charge out of about 100 places you could wirelessly charge your phone. If you don't need it, good. Some other folks enjoy the convenience of plopping it there at our work desk, or as we sleep, etc. If your point is you don't want it or need it, cool. If your point is NOBODY should, then I don't think you're accounting for different needs.

Yes it is slow... but convenient. I drive for a few hours a day and it is helpful to maintain my charge while using the phone to navigate and stream music or YouTube.

If I really need to charge fast I have a QC charger in my car and can plug it in.

Also at night I hate having my phone connected, it obviously doesn't bother you so it is what it is. To each his own. :)

FWIW, for me wireless charging is a requirement for a phone.

I think the Pixel 3 might bring back Qi Charging now that Apple has it. Too late for the pixel 2 obviously but you can bet Google will hop back on if Apple makes it cool again.

They might hop on the band wagon but not just because of Apple. Wireless charging is not always a deal breaker for everyone. I was a solid fan until I saw high speed charging.

My girlfriend, her daughter, and I always have our phones plugged in when using them. She wanted a wireless charging table or a sectional with outlets included. I said not happening because they aren't great ideas. Not to mention, electricity and sectionals don't mix in my opinion.

I ran two 8 foot long power strips underneath my girlfriend's new sectional on two different sides. You can charge your phone no matter where you sit. If friends come over you just slide the power strips underneath the couch and they disappear. Or if friends need to charge their devices, they just reach their hand under the sectional slightly and pull the power strip out. Fast charging galore!

In the time it takes to put your phone on a Qi charger, you could have plugged in your USB-C cable to quick charge. It's like waiting 30 minutes to super charge a Tesla versus me taking 3 minutes to fill my Tundra up with gas. You decide.

Do you think the pixel xl 2 will have it?

I'm going to say No. Simply because of the rumours pointing to the "Pixel II" having a metal back and wireless charging doesn't work well with that.

Google has joined the Wireless Power Consortium so that could mean some devices will have QI charging but maybe just not the new Pixel devices. Who knows, we might be lucky and get it somehow.
