Any of you also use a tablet

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

I still love my Galaxy Tab S 10.5 wi-fi-only tablet. Still a great tablet.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

Anyone uses a Windows 10 tablet? I am debating between Android and Windows for a large tablet.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

I am all Apple besides my note 8. I have a iPad pro for my tablet which works great better than any android tablet. I would have a new iPhone except the note is so much faster and can do more than iPhone.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

Not sure why this is tied to Galaxy Note 8 owners... I've had + size screen phones before (although I've not owned a Note 8) and in the end it's not really a tablet in it's own right. Even a 7 inch 'mini' tablet feels much larger when used side by side.

I wouldn't fret that you are getting redundant by going Note 8 to tablet so much by screen size as I would from going Android + Android.

IMHO, the best bang for the buck in tablets right now is a good Windows 10 2-in-1 with pen support. Very reasonable weight to function ratios and Price to performance ratios can be had now.

I mean, the Note 8 is a beast of a phone under the hood why replicate it or (even more likely) downgrade it in tablet form for a larger screen when you can always cast the Note 8 to a larger screen anyway. A streaming stick is dirt cheap next to a quality tablet.

Diversify your portfolio.

I ditched my laptop for a W10 2-in-1 back in September. One of the best choices I made all year. Got a great closeout price on an Acer Switch Alpha 12. I'll never go back to the good enough laptop spec again. Buying $300 - $400 laptops on sale is a waste of time in today's tech market.

When W10 was still prepping to launch, a Bing Rewards deal got me a $300 Dell with Core i3, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, a 720p 15.6" touchscreen display and 3 USB ports only one of which was 3.0.

Fast forward to this past September and I got a major performance boost for $574 with the Acer: Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, a 2k touchscreen with pen support and a USB A 3.0 + a Type C port. The detachable keyboard is an almost 1:1 Surface 4 clone and a great typing experience.

Rounded it out with some accessories. I already had a Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse. Add a quality microSD card, a $20 fingerprint reader that sits in the 3.0 port and a $40 hub that plugs into the Type C port which gives me: 2x 3.0 ports, a Type C port, HDMI and both standard and micro sized SD slots. I also splurged and picked up a Type C connectable Samsung T3 SSD in 250GB.

The cold boot + log in time is under 10 seconds with the fingerprint reader. Multitasking and daily chores are accomplished with aplomb. Inking is a good addition to the arsenal. It travels well and was a champ on my 2 weeks in Portugal as I kept everything organized and curated/edited my huge allotment of daily pictures. I don't play a whole lot of games, but the few I've dabbled with on the 12" 2k touchscreen have been very pleasurable. I stream lots of content off of Amazon Prime, Sling TV and other sources and the screen size is not really holding me back one bit. I probably stream more now than I have in the past.

Point is you can get a lot of power and flexibility... If you opt for just a straight Windows 10 Tablet, you might find yourself adding a keyboard and mouse anyway. You might want to think about a 2-in-1 in the Surface/Surface clone range.

While I don't own a Note 8, I do use Android as my daily driver and just bought an iPad pro 10.5 ($499.99 at Target until yesterday, I believe).

How do you like the iPad pro 10.5? I almost got that one the other day. I heard its extremely fast! :-)
How is the camera?

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

Apart from the Samsung tablets, are there any good 4GB/64GB android tablets and preferably in the 8" form factor?

You know, I took it though the basic paces yesterday and the camera is really good. Video is superb as well. I am coming from a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014, so the step up in performance was noticeable for sure. UI is smooth as silk.

I'm getting used to iOS again (own 1st gen iPad back in the day). I like iOS 11 so far, I think it's perfect for a tablet, but still scratch my head at the approach of iOS overall sometimes.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

Ever since I got the s8 Plus and now the Note 8 I don't find myself turning on my Tab S2 much anymore.

In a few months I'm opening a small retail business most likely at the flea market so I will have to use the tablet for Square and the register app.

I want a Tab s3 for that but everyone on here says to just use my old Tab S2 or buy one of the cheap Samsung tablets for that due to people possibly dropping it when signing their credit card transaction and such. They think the tab s3 is too pricey for that.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

I don't. I can't justify the price of a tablet for my uses. I use my phone when mobile and my PC when at home if I need a true desktop.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

I currently use my Note Pro 12.2, but my husb just gave me back my old Note10.1.

... only thing that annoys me about it is that I can't use the pens interchangeably.

I use all pens interchangeably between phones, tablets, and phone-to-tablet & vice versa. I have spares from my old Notes 3, 4, 5, 7, my Note 8 and both tablets.

The nibs are also interchangeable between pens. I've replaced the thicker N3's 4's & 5's with the finer point extra nibs from my N7 & 8. I haven't tried to switch the two tablets' nibs yet tho.

Re: Any of you also usr a tablet

I'm spoiled using a tablet at this point. When I'm sitting on the couch or chair, kitchen island, laying in bed, or out in the back porch and I want to relax, visit my favorite sites, read the news on cnn.com or flipboard, check your email now and then or watch some youtube videos and being able move room to room, the iPads the best. Sized and weighted just right for holding and reading one handed as if you're holding a magazine in one hand, and a cup of coffee in the other. And if I don't need to do work when traveling, I take the iPad instead of a laptop.

If I need to be mobile and do more work, then a laptop will do. When I really need sit and do lots more work and need more screen, then a desktop with at least a 22" screen (or two... or three) gets the work done.

Just fills a niche between all the other devices.

I sold my iPad mini and got a Tab A with S Pen. Kind of slow and no fingerprint unlock and I missed that so I sold it on Swappa. Now I bought an Tab S3 since I do love an S Pen. Much faster too. Great ebook reader or to watch videos. I'm not a gamer. Only thing is that Samsung is slow to provide updates. I'm still on the August security patch.
I also like the out of the box ability for customization. I mean Apple won't even let you theme the icons (I always had jailbrojen iphones/iPad but it's hard to do that now.) Not missing ios whatsoever. Love my setup and apps on my Note 8 more than ever. That's mostly what I want and can theme more easily with Android and my Tab S3.
