Any one know when the Siii might get Jelly Bean???

Jelly bean ? How many people on here have even had thier hands on , no less used a ics device .... I have played with my brothers nexus a handfull of times and to tell you the truth ...... It's ok .... You get used to what you have. I can't wait for ics just cause its one more thing to learn and play with, but after a week or 2 ics and the s3 will be no more magical than my og Dinc and gb.
Plus .... Where did this idea of entitlement come from with smart phone owners? Just cause its been announced doesn't mean you get it .... Just cause it really takes a month to fill a pre order why do you feel it should have been sooner?
IF YOU WANT IT THAT BAD ROOT AND GET IT YOURSELF !!!

***my next installment will include telling people who about touch wiz to get over it and drive on

In my opinion, nobody should buy a Samsung phone with the expectation that they'll get the next big Android release. They are extremely slow with updates, and they've probably moved most of their focus over to the S4 and a Touchwiz redesign.

The physical button complicates things even further, and I don't think they are going to mess around with trying to get their current release of Touchwiz working with Jelly Bean.

That's been my experience anyway. I know this going into it and set my expectations low on Samsung, and counteract it with my hope that the Developer community will do something great.

samsung is actually really quick with updates for the international models... its really the carriers that slow the process down in the us. hopefully that model is broken now though now that the number of US carrier specific models has shrunken considerably.

meh, not a big deal for me, hell, I'm using Gingerbread on my X

Not even sure there'll be any features that I really care about between ICS and JB (I don't dive into the phone as much as other Android people, I never rooted my X)

Keep in mind OP asked "any one KNOW when...". I'm pretty sure the first Google did after their keynote wasn't to inform a few select enthusiasts about when Samsung would release JB for their flagship.

If I'm expected to join the speculation, however, I'd say it depends on what your definition of "get" is. Samsung likely already has engineering builds of it, after all they had early access to the code, along with 4 others, and already have it running on the Nexus. Framework is likely not that different from ICS, and as quickly as Google themselves were apparently able to create Jellybean, I can't imagine it will be nearly as difficult to get it ported over.

However, Samsung did work a long time to develop the software experience for the S3, and it has a lot of features they are really going to be pushing. Many of these features would be overshadowed and redundant in Jellybean, so I would imagine Samsung would want to either put their own spin on them, or add yet more features before they started to push it. Alot of the TW additions are a huge part of their marketing for this phone, and they will want to ride on that for another few months at least. Remember, the vast majority of the market for this phone have never played with ICS before, possibly any version of Android. So there's still a lot of "new" left in the software.

I can see Samsung launching it a few months down the road, when the iPhone5 is the new thing, and there's a new range of Nexus devices around the corner, I can see them debuting some new features on a TW Jellybean build on the Note 2, following it up with an update for the SGS3 to bring it to parity. But who knows.

Again though, the engineering builds likely already exist. Each manufacturer typically builds AOSP Android on their devices first to get everything working, then optimizes performance as much as possible, before adding their own tweaks and additions to create their specific UX. Unfortunately, however, those stock AOSP engineering builds rarely, if ever, leak out, and they often don't have a working RIL (radio interface layer) if they do. But given the popularity of this phone, and the fact that all US versions are essentially the same hardware, I don't think it will be an intolerable wait for AOSP roms, and AOSP Jellybean soon after.

XDA will have one up as soon as the official image is out. At least that's what I hope. There's already a JB port on the XDA forums for the international GS3.

I will be rooting my phone day one and loading a custom rom. There is simply no reason not to. And I hope Samsung does a complete rewrite of TW, its looking very very dated.

As a Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi owner still waiting for the ICS update, I find it increasingly hard to believe the carriers are entirely to blame for slow updates.

Considering the fact that the Wifi Galaxy Tab still doesn't have ICS, I don't hold out much hope for a quick upgrade of the GS3 to Jellybean by Samsung. Then VZW has to add their own tweaks and what not, and it looks like we're going to be waiting for a while. It's a good thing ICS is available at least.

your worried about jellybean, i'm already anticipating Key lime pie, lol. I heard it gonna be able to control the traffic lights and make breakfast for you.

We can probably be sure that the SIII will get it in the future. It's too bad Google is releasing 4.1 so soon, there are barely and devices out there that have been upgraded to ICS still and an even smaller number of them are coming with from launch day. Since ICS was such a big update it would have been nice to see it stick around a little longer so that the non-Nexus/non-root customer can get some time with it.

Why is it bad that Google is releasing this "so soon". Google is releasing yearly updates to their OS, they are doing what needs to be done stay competitive, blame the manufacturers, not google for not getting 4.1 on your phone.

If Google were to start delaying and delaying updates, we would all be looking at similar situation as that of RIM, with their failed software updates. Google is doing the right thing by releasing the OS updates.

I'd pay at least $100 extra of they'd name the next Android OS "Baked Apple."

Save your money. "B" is long gone in the Android naming scheme. BUT, I get what you're saying... :D

That's funny. I never noticed the alphabetical order before. LOL. Id still pay to see it.

HA I wonder why they skipped over the A, B names and started with C ,(Cupcake) ?

Wikipedia said:
Since April 2009, each Android version has been developed under a codename based on a dessert or sweet treat. These versions have been released in alphabetical order: Cupcake, Donut, ?clair, Froyo (frozen yogurt), Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. The pre-release versions of Android were dubbed Astro and Bender, but these names could not ultimately be used for trademark reasons.

That pretty well sums it up...Thus sayeth the Wikipedias... I would have much preferred the original naming scheme. Lots more alphabetical names of robots I can think of than sweet treats.

I talked to a Verizon rep who told me you can't keep your unlimited data if you upgrade to Jelly Bean. That's why it's being released in mid-July.

Damn you Verizon!!

Your Verizon rep is an idiot. Firmware updates aren't going to impact a contract.

They released Android 1.0 and 1.1 without names, and then Cupcake was 1.5. Seems like they didn't come up with the dessert theme until then, so they started with C to acknowledge the two previous versions.

Also, the only A desserts I can think of all involve Apples, and I can't imagine early Android would have wanted to draw that comparison QUITE so clearly.
