Any way to get in to video mode without starting shooting?

Title says it all. With my S3 I was able to flip it to video mode and begin shooting when I wanted. With the S4 as soon as you press the video button the camera begin shooting. Seems like a silly decision on Samsung's part.

Instead of making a shortcut to the camera app on the home screen, you can put a shortcut just to camcorder. That's how I use to do it, I don't have it set up for that anymore though. Not sure if I just long pressed homescreen and added it or if I did it through uccw/zooper widget, but it was simple. I know at the time I was using nova launcher though. It did not autostart. Hope some of this helps in some way.

Thanks HP. Unfortunately I don't see a dedicated video function to use as a shortcut. I'm using the stock launcher.

The stock apps list doesn't include Camcorder, just Camera (at least in Verizon's implementation).

Yeah im on sprint and not sure if I downloaded that shortcut I linked to (probably) or it was already there. I know that was one of the first things I did though was put a shortcut to camera and a shortcut to video cam on my homescreen. That was back in march/April.
Anyways, see if that link works out for you.
I wish the cam, vid, and gallery weren't so interconnected with each other but....
