Any way to unlock the phone with Google Assistant?

Hey guys and gals,
Long time iPhone user playing with a Note 8, flirting with the "dark side." I'm seeing a lot of things I like and a few I'm not so fond of but the overall experience has been surprisingly pleasant so far. I can see why people prefer one os over the other based on what you may want from your phone. Anyway, on to my question.

Is there a setting to make the phone wake up and unlock using the "OK Google" command? So far, I haven't had any luck with it. I'm used to saying "Hey Siri, give me directions to wherever" while I'm driving and Siri will set me up. To get google Assistant to do it I have to first unlock the phone. It's a minor annoyance but still an annoyance. Would like to have a completely hands free experience without having to play 20 questions with Bixby.

Try Settings - Lock Screen and Security - Smart Lock - Trusted Voice and train the voice model (if you haven't already). As an alternative you can also select your car's Bluetooth as a trusted device so it doesn't lock at all when you're connected.

I've done that and when I say "ok google" I hear it beep but it won't actually do anything until I manually open the screen. From the aod, whether the phone is technically locked or not it won't come off of the aod. Going to try with aod off and see if anything changes.

EDIT: Tried with aod off and I'm getting inconsistent results. About one in three the screen lights up and unlocks. The other times it beeps and I see a red light flashing on the screen and it will listen to me but will not perform the requested task until I touch the home button. Weird.

I'm on Samsung s7. What I did as a work around was use s-voice first to wake up the phone then used Google Assistant to give instructions. Perhaps you need to use Bixby to wake up the phone? Sorry if way out to lunch ... I don't have a newer model to test.

Same thing here..... "Hi Bixby" will unlock the phone, but "ok Google" won't. It tries to, but doesn't on Note 8.
Wondering if it needs permissions or something?

Welcome - and you're not flirting with the "Dark Side", you're coming over FROM the "Dark Side"!
