Anybody with poor fluctuating signal?

My Pixel 5 on AT&T just got paid off so I put in an unlock request so I can sell it unlocked. But I will be putting in my Verizon sim in that and comparing it to my 6 pro before I sell it. There are like 5 different towers my phone connects to in my 725 sq foot apartment based upon Network Cell Info app, so I should find out some good data.

What kind of speed tests are you getting?

If it's good, between 5-10Mbps, usually closer to 5, if it's not between 1-5. It's usually not on the higher end.The signal goes from -100dbm to in the -120's and up to -130 or so. Occasionally it will go to -90dbm briefly. Usually worse than better. Have to use wifi calling, calls otherwise break up. There are 5 cell sites around me, which is why the Verizon rep on the phone could not believe I had a bad signal.\

But I check the signal all over. It's a poor network, and I'm in a supposedly top Verizon area in Northern NJ. I mean I do get a good signal sometimes but it's really not that much, and I check outdoors often.

Is it Network speeds that are lower with the Samsung modem, poor cell phone call reception, or both? How much worse is it? I don't need 5G for anything, but hate dropped calls or REALLY slow Network.

I've only had my Pixel 6 Pro for 10 days. I'm quite pleased with cell phone and WiFi reception.

My acreage is surrounded by hills. I depend entirely on Comcast WiFi at home and get a solid 700Mbps.

Cell reception away from home has all been 5G and has averaged about 100Mbps with the fastest being 170Mbps.

Some reviews say the Samsung modem will get slower 5G speeds, but it's not really an issue for 99.999999999% of us. I mean they are saying where the Qualcomm might approach 2Gbps the Samsung will get 1Gbps. I could care less. I have gotten over 600Mbps with this phone in NYC on 5GUW. I don't need anything close to that. I want a phone that will have a more reliable signal. I don't care if it's slightly slower in speeds. Just let me watch some high def video on the go and stream hi def music and load webpages fast.

When I'm in a low signal area where it should be stronger, sometimes it's so slow to open a webpage, or calls break up. That's my issue.

Thanks for the link. Looks like my next phone may not be a Pixel 6. :(

I'm going to wait and see if Google can somehow fix this with an upcoming Software Update before I take the plunge. My old G4 will have to go through a total Reset as I can barely use it now, but going to try and stretch a few more weeks out of it and see what Big G comes up with.

If the problem is truly as bad as some are reporting here or on Reddit (as opposed to be something that only affects a few folks out or how many with trouble phones), I'm shocked Google would put together and otherwise beautiful device to steal some business from Samsung and even Apple, but cheap out and take a chance with something as important as the heart of any phone's purpose in life, the PHONE part. It may become like the LG G4 Bootloop Death Spiral that killed two of my G4s, and turn people off Google all together.

I'm not seeing any slower or worse signal than my other phones ..I have a Z Fold 3 and iPhone 12 Pro and all on Verizon unlocked ...only difference is my Pixel grabs my lower band wifi instead of my extender at times when I come home ..

Sorry to hear that some folks are having reception issues. I posted this in another Pixel thread in early November:

Here is what I can say about my Pixel 6 experience so far when it comes to signal. I work on a Military post that is well known for terrible cell signal. Folks with T-Mobile service have called it T Maybe for years. With my Moto Z4 I could maybe make / answer a call if I walked around and found the perfect spot to stand still, stand on one leg, stick my finger in my ear, stick out my tongue, you get the point. With my Pixel 4XL I could usually make / answer calls in the same area, and had 4G signal sometimes. With my Pixel 6 I have had no issues making / answering calls in the same area, and have a decent 4G signal. So for me, it's the best reception I have had in the past 4 years at work. Those are my results.

That's good to hear. I'm about to set mine up (i finally have some time) and start using it. I hope I get similar results as you with regards to the reception quality. We'll see.

My 6 Pro gets as good or better signal than my prior devices, which were a Pixel 3XL and Pixel 1. I've been around these forums for many years. Almost every new device that comes out there are always a few who say the signal is worse.

Maybe everyone is imagining things?

AT&T said my device was unlocked yesterday. unfortunately every time I put in my Verizon sim it says to contact AT&T to unlock the device. About to chat with AT&T to see if they can fix this. Hopefully I can have results of the first Pixel 5 vs Pixel 6 signal strength test in the same spots on Verizon later this afternoon.

I unlocked my Pixel 5. It's not really much better than the 6 pro. Similar poor signal throughout my apartment, though it seems it will hold onto a cell site a bit better than the 6 pro in very limited back and forth testing, so nothing that conclusive. So even that's a maybe. In my case it seems Verizon's network is just not that good up here in my area,at least with the Pixel 5 and 6,this is in Northern NJ right next to NYC, in areas their coverage shows excellent everywhere. It has moments of excellence but in general is mediocre. It seems their transition to 5G is not going well. I had AT&T here and it was much better, a girl that came over had T-Mobile and also her service was excellent here. So T-Mobile here I come.

I refuse to give AT&T any more money after finding out they financed the OAN network.

I ordered an unlocked 256GB 6 pro from Google, will take that to T-Mobile, pay off the Verizon 6 Pro, unlock and sell it. This way I'll be on a monthly payment plan for this phone which is what I prefer vs being out the 1K out front.

I'm thinking about going to T-Mobile for the same reasons

I hope I get the same results. I'm coming from a p3

Bars are nonsense, and to compare them is futile.

Download an app which reads in dBm in order to have a shot at meaningful comparisons.

I use CellMonitor, but there are oodles of them, and they all read the same thing on your phone, but display it differently with all the other information.

I've been using network cell info pro.
