Anyone else exchanging Galaxy Note for the Lumia 900?

I know specs aren't everything but when i look at the Lumia 900 i have to laugh a bit. I mean i don't see anything that stands out for it. I could kind of see going to a HTC Titan maybe, but to me the Lumia really isn't anything to go crazy over.

Non HD Display
older AOLED tech
Thick and heavy
low amount of ram
smaller display as well.

What stands out that makes this a must have phone. I see it has LTE, and that is pretty much the only plus I can see it has over others, but certainly not the NOTE, or the GS2 Skyrocket for that mater. To each there own.

It's difficult to compare based on specs when you are comparing Android and WP. WP doesn't need big ram and multi-core processors, and nothing in the OS currently would even make use of an HD display.

On a personal level, I love my HTC Titan, but I could never even consider a Lumia. I find the enormous bezel to be too distracting. It looks ridiculous.

Do you use both an android device and a windows phone device? If you do, then you have the best of both worlds. Lol.

Yea I tend to agree so maybe my comment about the memory isn't really anything to worry about. But Display tech doesn't really have much to do with the OS. Just better display tech make the experience better, and if the OS can't handle it then it is just one more example of how WP isn't a real competitor. At this point i wouldn't think any high end phone for any platform shouldn't have a non HD display.

There isn't much of an excuse for big and bulky either. And that has nothing to do with the OS.

Well I finally made my decision.....I went to my local AT&T store this morning and exchanged my Galaxy Note for the Lumia 900. I had to get over the screen size difference initially but once that passed I was really impressed with the design and build quality of the Lumia 900. There were several other people picking one up too and the Cyan Blue color was really popular. I went with the black one and so far I'm really impressed with it. The OS is relatively simple compared to Android but it feels smooth, intuitive, and polished. The live tiles are nice and I was able to find the majority of the main apps that I use on Android in the Windows Phone marketplace. My work Outlook and personal Gmail accounts synced without a problem and all of my contacts are now on my new phone. Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and Linkedin integration are second to none on Windows Phone. I actually am really trying hard to find a reason not to like Window Phone and I can't. I'm a true tech head and I realize that word of mouth is a powerful tool in the smartphone world. Apple and Android are so popular due to the monkey see monkey do mentality. People follow whatever the hot thing is at the time. As a 1st time Windows Phone user I am truly impressed with where the platform is right now and I'm excited to see where it goes from here. I think I'll be holding on to this phone for awhile, at least until I see what Apple announces regarding the Iphone 5. ;)

Thanks for the report. I'm curious - are there any apps you had on your Note that you havent been able to find on the Lumia 900's market place?

I need to swing by the AT&T store to see what all the hype is about. I think AT&T will cut me off if I make another phone swap. Haha

I haven't tried the new Lumia 900, but what I know about the Galaxy Note is that it's not a mere smartphone. It's more for those that want to only buy, use, and carry one device.

Being that you immediately noticed and had to adjust to the screen size difference between the Lumia 900 and the G-Note tells me that the Lumia would not work for me as a tablet replacement.

The good thing about so many devices though is that there is something for everyone.

I haven't owned a Windows smartphone since the Moto Q. But if I were to buy another smartphone only device I'm thinking this latest offering my Nokia would be the way to go.

For now, the G-Note does it all for me and a screen size smaller than 5.3 wouldn't work in my world.

I played with the note yesterday in best buy and it is my dream phone i would never be able to downgrade screen wise I need that phone to come to verizon its just an amazing device

I heard about the $100 bill credit that Nokia is providing and that makes my decision even more worthwhile. Maybe it's just me but the Note is just like most other Android phones, just with a large screen. Its built just like the Galaxy S2 line of phones. Samsung needs to diversify their hardware real soon.

I tried the Titan when it came out and really liked it at first. Ended up returning it on the 29th day because I was already so bored with the OS. Good luck and it will be interesting to see if you keep it!

Rally Android.. Where do you find the rebate coupon for the phone? Is it at Nokia's web site? Amazon sells the phone for $49.99 by the way without sales tax or shipping costs. I'll have to go and try it out too :)

I love my Galaxy Note, but I'm REALLY curious to see what you think about the WP7. Like a lot of the people here, I think WP7 is a little too underdeveloped right now, but I am VERY hopeful to see what happens in six months. Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) is supposed to come out around October. I am excited to see what Microsoft does. They went a different direction than Apple and Google, and THANK GOODNESS!

Microsoft has entered all of its successful markets late, and then dominated. I'm glad they're competing, and while I'm hooked on the Note right now, if Microsoft does something extraordinary, I'll be happy to try their OS. I want:

  • A large, HD screen (the Note has spoiled me)
  • A super fast, super stable experience
  • The 200 apps I need (Windows already has most of them)
  • An excellent camera

My reservations about WP7 are:
  • Low specs that limit multitasking
  • Low resolution screen
  • A few holdout apps (specifically Audible)

None of these are difficult to overcome or meet. Then, I would be interested.

So did you like the lumia 900? Why did you switch to the note?

Apologies I didn't respond to you sooner. I liked the lumia but I had the data issue that everybody was talking about and the data speed was slow. Both the mysteries were solved later thought. The data speed issue was due to my phone being loaded by a 3G sim card rather than a LTE sim card and the data issue has been now fixed by Nokia.
I might go back but now am wondering whether to go for unlimited data with sprint by getting the g nexus or the evo 4g lte or stick with my note or go back to the lumia.
The challenges in life ;)

That's okay. And about the Lumia, how was windows phone 7 compared to android on your note? Having used wp7, you seem to still find interest in android devices. Which do you feel is the better platform, having experienced both?

If you're going to trade your note to a lumia, prepare a $35 restocking fee because you will just end up going back to the note. When I first heard of the note, I waited to see if it's coming out to north America. They said nope. So I traded my iphone for a galaxy s2. Then the note was announced to be released to north America!!!! Oh well, I will be getting the note 2 for sure.
