Anyone Else have white noise/hissing in background during calls/

Sorry if this is considered "resurrecting" a thread, but I wanted to follow up and see if this issue was resolved. The white noise problem was the reason I exchanged my Bolt, but the new phone had the same issue. I am back to a old school clamshell phone but want to reacquire the Thunderbolt if the white noise issue has been addressed.

One interesting thing I heard when returning the phone to a VZW store in Durham, NC was that "everyone" was having that issue and that it was due to VZ "rolling out 4G in the area, which should be here in April". I didn't want to commit to two years of poor earpiece sound quality, so I regrettably returned it.

So, really, I have two questions:

1) Has the issue been fixed in a universal sense (regardless of coverage/location)?

2) Have people experiencing white noise / hissing noticed that it is reduced or entirely gone when traveling to different locations (e.g. to cities with "mature" 4G up and running)?

Someone posted a fix a week ago that involved going into your phones network settings. This helped me slightly where I don't even notice the noise unless I'm trying to.

@ Forgetful

Thanks for the heads up; I'll search for that thread. Do you have 4G where you live? Wondering if it's location/network -related or if the rep I spoke with was talking out of her other end.

I had a awful noise on a call yesterday, it only was there when I wasnt talking and when it was silent. Everyday there is new **** coming up with this phone and nothing you can do about it.

Before you could just return it! Since you had 30 Days

You are eligible for VZW Warranty Repair/Replacement for 1 year after purchase.

What really changed is that you only had 14 days, rather than 30, to nullify the whole deal, including your contract.

Yes, I know that...14 Days is almost not enough time to make a informed decision about the phone. Since you might not use it like you did your previous phone during that time....

I like the phone, but there are some things that are bothering me and I didnt have those issue's with my Tour. I'm not talking about the Email since I find that to work just fine for my needs.

That's what worried me about committing to the TBolt as part of that "whole deal" for two years after receiving the second device and experiencing the same problem. I still want a Thunderbolt, but I also want it to be free from the hissing/white noise issue that it seems few are complaining about.

As a consequence I returned it last second and hoped that the issue would be resolved while unlimited 4G for $30/mo was still an option.

Sounds like progress has been made but that it is still an issue (albeit minor..?).

If changes to the service menu are made to change the codec from 8-bit to 13-bit and thus improve call quality / reduce white noise (as suggested in the linked thread above), are those alterations preserved or still able to be made if you are running a ROM with a custom kernal?
