Anyone else waiting for Apple to reveal the iPhone 8 before buying the Note 8?

I'm currently using an i7+ for several months after I damaged my V30 (parts have been available for many months but I just haven't repaired it yet)
Pre ordered the Note 8 today, definitely looking forward to being back on Android. I enjoy the Android experience SO much more to be honest. I swear I daily tell myself how much I hate iOS and that I can't wait to switch back.

Was up in the air about waiting for the V30 before getting the Note but I checked out a demo Note at BB and although it wasn't a "this phone is absolutely amazing" feeling like I got with the previous Note 7, it will no doubt grow on me. I will probably dump the iPhone for the V30 soon after it comes out, we'll see. May pay off the iPhone to keep it as a backup and not turn it in just so I have it if I decide to switch things up.

Note all the way over the iPhone. I held onto my 7 as long as possible. Too much to love about Android in general over iOS to keep me on board

Re: Anyone torn between the Note 8 and the next iPhone?

I’m torn. I like Android and iOS. And I have no problem with that. I am really torn this year, because it looks like we will have 3 great phones: iPhone X or 8 or whatever, the LGV30 and the Note 8. Anyone torn between the next iPhone or the Note 8? And if so, why?
Not torn at all, just got my letter from Verizon telling me my pre ordered Note 8 will arrive Sept 14

I dunno. I think part of the bland-ness of ios is those lcds they use. Remember when stock Android went to amoled back in the day? I think it was the s4 play edition. Made it seem so fresh even though it really wasn't. Yes ios is kind of *** backwards but I bet you here plenty of tech journalists go ga ga over "This oled screen just makes ios look gorgeous and eye-popping" etc. My love for Android is too strong but I'll look at it. My back up is a 7 plus so we'll see lol.

The iPhone 8 will be like the second coming of Christ. People will fawn over the oled display and the new form factor, facial recognition and wireless charging. Forgetting the fact that all of this has been available on android for ages.

I've already seen it being reported as amazing lol

I thing the blandness comes from its simplicity and lack of customisation.

All iPhones look the same. It's just rows and rows of apps.

Funny how features on Android are useless gimmicks, UNTIL they become available on Apple - a year later. Then, and only then, they become necessary, life altering, and cutting edge. Water resistance, fast charging, wireless charging and something else that escapes my memory now were "but who really needs that?" features according to my Apple wielding buddies. Somehow they get excited about that stuff now. Gotta love em. 😏

Awesome there are so many devices and features that there's something for everyone.

I keep hearing this same rhetoric about the iPhone being boring but what about the Note 8 is exciting?!

I mean it’s basically what the S8+ should have been. Samsung is comparing the cameras of the Note 8 to the 7 Plus, a phone that has been out for 11 months and is on the brink of being refreshed so it’s pointless. No 3x zoom like the rumor mill was stating, so again Samsung just catching up not being the leader. Blah blah I know the response already well “The Note 8 has dual OIS camera modules” but we’ll see what tricks Apple has up their sleeve in a couple weeks.

They keep pushing Bixby, another useless and annoying feature along with Dex another pointless add-on.

So why is it ok for the Apple bashing but “Oh my the almighty Note 8 and Samsung must not be questioned on anything! It is perfect!”

The iPhone Edition and 7S variants will sell better on its first weekend of preorders than this thing will.

Also when will the Note 8 get Oreo? Samsung didn’t even mention that in the keynote. That could have been a good bone to throw out there.

Have you used a Note or S8+ device and then a current iPhone? I doubt it, because if you had, you'd know why people consider the iPhone boring. Let me start by saying I think the iPhone 7 Plus is a great phone. It's by far the fastest phone I've used. Everything opens up instantaneously. It has a very solid camera, although personally I prefer even the S7's camera. But that's subjective.

If you're someone who uses your phone a lot, and both for work and for play, there really isn't any comparison. It's not so much that it's just boring because Apple insists on allowing minimal customizations (e.g. why in this day and age do you still have to have all app icons aligned to the TOP of a huge phone like the 7 Plus? Why no themes?). It's productivity and cool features that are useful. Here are just a few examples:

1. With large screens, it is actually very useful to run 2 apps simultaneously. For example, your email and calendar at the same time when trying to figure out a response to an email asking for your availability, Google Maps and Google Music while driving, or YouTube and Facebook, or Google Music and a web page. This is a significant productivity boost for work scenarios.

2. One of the reasons the iPhone 7 Plus has such amazing battery standby time is that iOS is terrible at keeping background apps alive. That's great if you don't need any. But it sucks when you do. A good example is that if you're using GoToMeeting and are dialed into the call instead of using VOIP, GTM gets shut down automatically by iOS if you don't switch back to it every 5 minutes. So if you want to listen to a con call while driving and using navigation, you have to keep taking your hands off the wheel to switch back to GTM every few mins to keep it alive. This may not be a common scenario, but it is for me, and there are many other similar scenarios.

3. LastPass on Android can actually fill usernames and passwords in apps for you instead of you having to copy switch back to the app, paste, switch back to LastPass, copy the password, etc. Many other similar examples too.

4. iOS is so locked down that it takes double the time to do basic things. It's 2017, and I still can't put a folder of people/contacts on my screen for folks I call frequently? Why? Why do I have to add every different number of a single favorite contact to the favorites list separately? It's slows me down so much compared to Android where I can not only have the icons of the folks I call most often right on my home page, low down on that page, but also using Nova Launcher, simply swipe up to call them on their mobile.

Anyway, that's just a short list. There are many more things. Personally I think for people who use their phones every now and then and don't depend on them for business when they're remote, and being productive, etc. Plus people who don't like to tinker or have to learn new things, the iPhone is fantastic. It does the limited number of things it can do very well and very quickly.

But for power users, it's not even close. Then when you add the S-Pen, the Note is just a beast for productivity.

Awesome there are so many devices and features that there's something for everyone.

I recall one was "multitasking? who needs multitasking?" - lol Also FPS was scoffed at until it was on an iPhone.

The next thing is the 18.5:9 screen. Everyone is calling LG and Samsung crazy with this ratio screen. Watch how it will be a great thing on iPhone.

iPhone hasn't been innovative in years, I have FINALLY decided to stay away from them after the galaxy 8 launch earlier this year. even the new iPhone looks like a galaxy, so sad.

Apple has never really been innovative from a technology stand point. It's been a relatively simple formula.

Do the best Apple-version of a product category and market it better than anyone else.

I thought I was set to pre-order the Note 8, then after seeing all these sites and videos comparing the Note 8 vs the rumoured specs/features of the iPhone 8, I decided to hold off and wait for Apple to reveal the iPhone 8.

I've never owned an iPhone before, but I've worked on many iPhone devices for work, so I'm open to give them a try if the specs/features look good.

If you're in the market, it would make sense to wait to see how it all plays out.

Note 8, V30, iPhone, and Pixel are launching relatively close to each other.

This is apples firs year with new screen technology so I would wait it out this time. The whole iPhone experience will be different unless you pick up the 7s plus which will be the same.

Exactly. Wasn't there some mention about going to usb-c as well? Still too locked down and boring for me.
Do they have themes yet?

Not that I know of. I'm sure one of my friends would have called me immediately to say "I bet your Sad-Sung doesn't have themes." Lol!

I never bash Apple, or any other brand for that matter. I'd venture to think every brand does SOMETHING extremely well. For me, EVERYTHING I need is executed. And if it's not native, there's an app for that.

For the Love of God, no.

I genuinely don't know how people do it.
Over the years I have had various iphones for work. I end up using them solely for calls. I agree that they are quick, usually with a solid camera. But dull and frustrating.

Is it September 15th yet? :)

USB C was mis-interpreted.

They just made USB Type C to Lightning.

Waiting for next week's announcement!
Here you go, I found the snippets of the first few paragraphs of Tim Cook's speech ;-). Sorry u couldn't find the rest.

"Last year, we made the courageous and groundbreaking move of removing the 3.5mm headphone jack. This year in another courageous move, we've removed the home button (wild applause)."

"Instead, we've introduced the first ever 3D facial scanning technology that is so good at instantly recognizing your face, the NSA tried to prevent us from releasing it on a phone. It can detect your face during the day, at night, if you're wearing sunglasses, makeup, a fake or real mustache, or even if you've had mild* plastic surgery! It can recognize it from the front, back, or either side, or even from the top of your head should you prefer to log into your phone that way."

"The iPhond X is now the first cell phone with absolutely no buttons. Yet it remains the phone with the most intuitive UI in the world."

"This year, we have created the first of its kind, amazing, astonishing, BeyondInfiniti(TM) Display with no bezels* (3mm). This allows us to fit the largest display of any phone on the market, at 5.8" diagonal, 0.3" larger than the iPhone 7 Plus' display, yet in a body only slightly larger than that of the regular iPhone 7. Add to the first ever charging without cables system. We call it Zi(TM) wireless charging, and along with our new, proprietary iWirelessCharger, which costs only an additional $199.99, will allow you to just place your beautiful, stunning, world changing iPhone X on the charger for it to immediately begin charging. It charges from 0 to 50% in an astonishing world record time of 3 hours, and gets to 100% in an amazing 8 hours and 20 minutes."

"We've made this possible by using a brand new material on the back of the phone that unlike metal, allows for completely wireless charging. This material is a patent pending material known as 'iGlass'."

"In another courageous first, we've also completely removed the thunderbolt port so that all charging can be done wirelessly. This makes the iPhone X the first phone ever with no holes or ports anywhere except for the speakegrille and microphones. It also means that like last year's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the iPhone X Is IP68 water resistant, but this time we encourage you to swim with it, and have even introduced a new selfie mode called 'swim wave selfie'. The best part is that you can now purchase as many iWirelessChargers as you want, one for home, one for work, and one for the road on the off chance that you run out of juice despite us having a whopping 2,300mAH battery on board. The iWirelessChargers come in colors that perfectly match those of the phone."

"The iPhone X also introduces yet another world first, the first Active Matrix, Organic Light- Emitting Diode display. We call this technology AMOLED (TM). This will make black colors much blacker and deeper than any black colors have ever seen. So deep, that you may get lost as you stare into our amazing, astonishingly beautiful screen, which now also feature another world first, Quad HD resolution (even Wilder applause)."

Nailed it

Nope. I have a physically crippled LG that I sometimes jump on (like now) but I'm SO READY to be back 100% on Android. Been using an iPhone 7+ since December and while it's not a terrible phone, every day has been a reminder of why I don't like iOS.

Already anxious as hell to get my note 8. Went down to BB again today to play with the demo model and seriously can't wait. I'm excited for the phone but also just as excited to be back to Android full time.

My initial impression of "this thing is huge and stupid tall" quickly subsided (didn't keep me from getting one anyway!), and today I compared the 7+ side by side and it's marginally taller than the 7 but otherwise almost the same size. I think having so much true useable screen real estate just tricks your mind into thinking it's much larger than it actually is
