The phone is just too thin to dissipate heat efficiently.
Can someone explain this statement to me? It makes absolutely no sense.
The phone is just too thin to dissipate heat efficiently.
strange. Mine doesn't seem to get very hot while charging and I'm still using my old Pre and Evo chargers. Still my only experience with it overheating was a 2 hour gaming marathon on it. I guess I'll have to try that again this weekend and pay a little more attention.
I know this may be normal because of the power of this monster, but this past weekend I finally had a chance to use my new Epic 4G touch the way it was meant to be. Games, games and more games for a few hours. I pretty consistently used it without stopping for at least 2 hours and noticed after about an hour to an hour and a half that the phone started getting almost unbearably hot. It was almost too hot to hold normally. I guess this amount of use also managed to kill the battery in that amount of time. Has anyone noticed similar results? With normal every day use this phone has been perfect in every way. Maybe it's just not meant for hours of gaming?
My friend, I have in fact posted positives on the phones when there are positives to post.. I truly believe that the Photon is probably close to the perfect phone. And the great thing about me is that I will NEVER fabricate the truth to get some type of self satisfaction with a purchase that I have made that will in turn maybe steer someone whos just looking for an honest answer on a product before they purchase it. With that said this current product by Samsung is very very suspect with ALL of the problems that the end user such as myself is having. The screen, speed and camera (still) is great however, this product is a major FAIL with connectivity, internet speed, build quality, audio quality and over heat!!!! Also the inablity for it to charge completely using USB...
Hey you can hang around and like a product that you consciously know is not up to par with the hype if you want to. But just about EVERYONE signed up to this forum has experience with Samsungs lackluster products.. They havn't released a worthy product to DATE and that is FACT!!! And this one is no exception.
I noticed ebbs and flows of heat with my EVO and the same seemed to be happening with my GS2E4GTBBQ until yesterday (had it 5 days) when it was draining battery rapidly and was constantly warm. After it went down to about 30% after only 4 hours, I put it on my old EVO charger. Looking at the usage stats led me to believe that Craig's Notification and I killed the process then restarted the phone. Shortly after it restarted, I heard a beep and noticed it had stopped charging due to overheating. I have the phone naked, so I have no idea what could be causing the heating.
I took off the back cover and then pulled the battery (which wasn't THAT hot) and let them sit a few minutes before putting it back in and then letting it charge with the phone off. After a while, I powered the phone up and then took it off the charger at about 97% IIRC.
I woke up and after about 5 hours off the charger, it was down to 90% which was a bit better than the usual overnight drop at home on the wifi. It felt cool and the battery app showed the temperature to be rather low compared to the 90s I usually see. I decided to leave it off the charger on the drive in and used it in my office which I swear is a Kryptonite Faraday cage for a signal leaving me frequently with one or less bars and no data connection. As you can see, it dove precipitously until I put it on the charger at 35%. It took about three hours to recharge. Temps are between 99-108F.
More worrisome is how the phone has just shut off on me. The first time was last Saturday while at lunch. I set it down on the table and when I picked it back up, it was off. Later that afternoon, it went off while on the charger at home (an HP Touchpad charger), so the reported loose battery possibility wasn't an option. It shut down again while on the car charger, a Verizon unit, and this was ahead of the heat, drain and power issues detailed above. I wonder if I have a bum handset?
