This is more a carrier question really than a Pixel 2 question, but for those of you that bought the Pixel 2/2 XL from Verizon, did you stay at that carrier, or did you switch out soon after to someone else?

I kept service with them -- I use Verizon as my carrier. Did you have a specific reason for the question or just curious if people are using Verizon or swapping elsewhere?

Bought from Best Buy, remove Verizon sim, installed Cricket SIM activated phone, couldn't be happier

Well, I'm curious what everyone did when they got the phone thru Verizon. I know that during the pre-order period, some people were able to get the Verizon 2 XL without having to get a plan attached. When I ordered mine however, they no longer had that option, so I was required to get a plan to get the phone. I also am paying installments on the phone rather than paying the full amount outright. The rep did say though that Verizon doesn't do contracts anymore, so my real question is, did anyone that did get the phone that had to attach a plan to go with it switched out once they had it? I really don't want to stay with Verizon long-term, I'd rather stay at AT&T or switch to Project Fi.

You can pay the phone off fully and swap to another carrier without worry. The phone is unlocked so it is as simple as going to your next carrier, porting your number, and slapping in the new SIM card.

Very Important: Did you trade in a phone? If not this does not apply to you:

VZW got smart about trade-in credit. It is applied as a pro-rated monthly amount not as an upfront savings If you cancel your account with them, you forfeit the amount remaining uncredited.

So if you took advantage of a trade, you'll lose the value if you switch carriers 'cause you won't continue receiving that monthly credit.

I'm with VZW and got $200 in trade when I bought my OG XL w/ payments of $32/month. Included on my bill is an $8 credit for the trade ($200 over 24 months). Phone "costs" me $24/month. I still owe for half the phone's total value however, 'cause I "paid" $32/month towards it ie $760/2 = $380. IF I pay off the phone now, it'll cost me the full $380. If I continue to do payments, I'll be out of pocket $280 because of that $8/month credit. Over the 2 years, then, I will have paid full price on the phone BUT recouped the $200 trade value.

I am continuing to make my payments. I bought my 2 XL from Google so I did NOT have to pay off the OG XL had I gotten it from VZW.

It really is wrong how Verizon does that. I barely caught that detail last year. One way to get around that is to trade the phone in afterwards, as you could do any used phone, and you get a lump sum credit a month or so later. However if its a special like the $300 deals, you may not get the full amount, but its close. My current phone has a $160 standard trade in, or through the promo, its $200. I'll take the $160 lump sum vs the $200 spread over 2 years.

It really is awful how confusing they make things and switch them around every year or so. But, its one of the only electronic devices that have such a thing. Would love to trade in my 2 year old 4k TV for the new model with such ease. Lol

I did not. Even if I wanted to, neither Nexus device that I own (6P and 5X) aren't listed in the trade in for Verizon.

Also, I went with Verizon over Google because I wanted the panda color, but got tired of waiting for Google to restock it. It didn't seem like Google would be able to ship one my way in time before I go travel.

Figures that I'll need to pay off the phone first before moving to another carrier. I'll accelerate my payments in the next couple of months or so then. Thanks for the info!

Well just remember with Verizon you can't throw any extra money at it. You have to pay the monthly as part of the requirement or pay it all off. You can't toss an extra $50, $80, etc. here at it during the month.

Ah, so I can't double/triple/etc. to accelerate it? It's either I pay the regular amount or pay the rest off in one shot?

That is correct. Either monthly -- or all at once. Verizon is dumb for that since other carriers allow extra payments but... Verizon is Verizon and does dumb things sometimes lol :P.

Heh, that's why I was loathing about getting it thru them. I tried to order it from Google during the keynote but didn't get it in. So waiting to see if it freed up again, I missed out on the preorder deal (for the Google Home Mini), as well as the T-Mobile trade in deal last week. So, I bit the bullet and ordered it this past weekend, and because I wanted the panda (which they did have in stock), to Verizon I went. Oh well, maybe I'll wait on paying the rest of it all at once until after the holidays and our long overseas trip. ;)

Did you do it online?

I got my phone online from a seller on ebay. It was a verizon pixel phone and I just went to a local at&t shop and bought a sim card for it(since my older phone doesn't support nano) and it works fine.

My carrier is Verizon and I have the 🐼 from them. I had also purchased the smaller white 128gb from Google. I decided to keep the 🐼.

Thirty day returns in case you want to back out. Did you cancel the Google order?

True, I did like the return window for online orders. Also, if Verizon has a holiday deal later this month, I could return it and repurchase it to get the deal. All I paid so far is just sales tax.

As for Google, I never made an order. I'm on the waitlist there (and on Project Fi) for the panda.

I envy you Fi users. I'd like to try it from a tech standpoint but I just use way too much mobile data lol.

My son's phone (Nexus 5X) is on Fi now. He's been staying under 1 GB/month data-wise. I was hesitant moving my 6P over to Fi (from AT&T) because of my data usage is all over the place. Go figure my taking my number away from AT&T and moving it over to Verizon. My billing coming from three carriers is going to be screwed up for awhile.
