Anyway to separate notification volume from call volume?

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

He is absolutely right the iphone has the same issue. My girlfriend has the iphone 4 and she was extremely frustrated by this. She needs calls because she is oncall for nursing but doesnt want notifications all night. That was one of the things she loved about android, she got used to it. i guess we will too.

No, I wont. I will not keep using this phone, and I will keep using a gingerbread phone for as long as I can keep it running. This is totally unacceptable.

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

Try the app called "auto ring" in the market....you can set your ringer to silent/vibrate but have a "white list" to ring every tiime they call no matter what....I use it on my droid X and hope to use on my GN when it gets here...I usually keep my phone on vibrate but have all my mom' and wife numbers whitelist to ring everytime they call no matter what.

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

That actually sounds like a great idea!!!

It is not ideal, but it is a work around that will suffice for now. It does not cover emergencies (the hospital tries to call because your mom got into a car accident or something) but it would somewhat fix my issue because I could whitlist my boss.

I will check this out. Thank you!

Re: Can't have seperate notification sounds?

I am pretty sure it is the same as on other devices. Go into the app settings you want to change and select notifications

Right but for those of us that change this twice daily (morning and night) it is pain to go into Gmail, Messaging, and Email to silence notifications; there is no central location or 3rd party application that does this automatically at the moment.

I need calls at night but not notifications and I need calls and notifications during the day.

I installed Profiles from the market and it split them for me. I can adjust ringer and notifications separately.

Try out LightFlow. if you disable notifications within Gmail, SMS, Talk, Etc and let LightFlow manage them, you can enable "sleep mode" between what ever your bedtime is and whatever time you get up.

i tested it by setting sleep mode to 20 minutes (about an hour ago) and sending myself an email. it stayed silent, but the phone still rang for incoming calls.

i think this may be one of the best work-arounds we have right now...

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

I guess I've always had my notification volume the same as the ringtone cuz it's never bothered me that much, even though I've been able to change the settings. After hearing how everyone turned the notifications down, I see how it could be a lot easier that way! So here's to hoping they do an update to include this feature.

Profiles seems to allow the split, but in actual use they are still linked.

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

I take it that you want to have the phone ring audibly, but emails be completely silent? No problem, right?

In "Ringtone & Notifications", can't you just set a separate tone for "Phone ringtone" and for "Default notification" set it for "Silent" (the topmost option).

Separately, in the Gmail app, for example, hit the "..." setting button. Then "Settings." Then "user@host.com" Then see option for "Email notifications". Corporate configuration is very similar.

Did you try those yet?

Ah good point, if all the applications are set to "default notification" I should be able to change the default notification to silent at night then change it to the ringtone of my choosing during the day.

Still not ideal but I will give it a shot. Thanks!

There are a couple threads floating around with the same topic. This was posted in another of them and should work:

Set all of your applications (Gmail, Email, and Messaging) to default notification. Then change the default notification to Silent at night and change it to the notification of your choosing during the day.

Theoretically this should work although not ideal. I am sure applications will come along to allow ICS profile changes on the fly.

EDIT: This partly works. FOR SOME REASON, Gmail uses the actual phone ringtone rather than the notification. Changing the above works for Email and Messaging but Gmail is still does whatever the phone is set to.

Not all applications use this function. I have yet to test it, but kik messenger for instance does not let you choose the sound, so I dont know if it uses the phones default sound or of it uses its own. Ill have to check on that.

It's a pig of a solution. Get ready for bed. Change notifications one by one for two gmail accounts, three pop accounts, one for sms. Then finally go to sleep after a half hour. Yeah not gonna work. Come on Google, get your heads out of your 4th point of contact.

I agree, this is exactly how I'm managing notifications for text messages at night. K9 Mail already has a Quiet Period mode for silencing emails at night, so that covers that notification already, for me.

I'm springing for the paid version of Light Flow, it's a very handy utility, indeed. The free version works, but after using it for a day I'm liking it enough to compensate the dev for the good work.

my only disapointment with lightflow is there is no wigget for easy on off. I dont want my notifications to turn of at a set time. I go to bed at different times. I want a button I can click that will turn it on and off that I can click when I set my volume provile.

Agreed. Quite a big misstep in ICS here, doesn't mean an update will not adjust it but as of now it is a pain. I have just disabled all audible notification for now until there is a fix/app.
