Anyway to separate notification volume from call volume?

Unless I'm not understanding this, I just went into my Nexus settings and I know for email (at least), I can set it for silent while still having whatever ring tone I want for incoming calls.

Yes, you can do that.

The issue is, if you have a lot of apps with notifications, say text message, gmail, and so on, if you want there to be no notifications at night, you have to go in and set them all to silent. It is a pain in the but.

And BTW, the gmail app will not let you set it to system default. It just chooses whatever the system default is, and wont stay on system default. So you will have to go change it every night if you want gmail to make noise when you wake up.

I use a paid app called RingLeader Pro. Before ICS , it used to let me separate the volumes, and like all the other volume managers with ICS it no longer does.

However, because of some of the other features of the app, I am able to manage my notifications in a way that I can silence the notifications with the ringer volume up, though the 1 time setup is a bit extensive. Once it it set though, it works really well, and it even has a widget for changing profiles.

Essentially the app allows you to set up different profiles, and within each you can select a specific notification tone for each app, as well for as the phone ringetone. The key - I found out today - is the ability to select "Silent" as a notification tone for each app I want to silence. This way I can keep the Ringer volume to full in my "Calls Only" profile, and set each app's notification tone to "silent" in that profile. This profile setup is a 1-time effort remember, then you can use it with 1 touch afterwards.

Anyway, it works for me well, though it required much less work before ICS ! I have a "Calls Only" profile, a "Vibrate" profile, a "Normal" profile, and a few others. So far it seems viable.

That is PERFECT. Thank you!! I just started setting it up and it is great. More involved but once it is set up, it will give me the functionality I need.

I wish Google had not made it ncessary, but I am glad you had the solution.

I'll check out RingLeader. I was looking at Light Flow as well. Is anyone else concerned with the permissions Light Flow wants? Why does it need access to my camera, contacts and bluetooth?

it can flash your camera light if you don't have a notification LED

it can have contact specific notifications and colors

it can flash to indicate that Bluetooth is active

:)

I guess I'm just cautious since it seemed to be an excessive amount of permissions for an app that basically flashes a light and plays some sounds.

RingLeader is perfect!

It takes a bit to set up but I just finished and it does exactly what we need.

You can have it set all individual apps to silent with a profile. This essentially bypasses the need to lower the volume. The only limitations are apps that dont let you choose the sound, but I think these just use the default one in the system, and RingLeader lets you choose THAT one as well, so you are totally covered.

The only limitation with light flow is that there is no homesreen button to turn it on and off, only time based (at a certain time it goes on). if you are fine with that, lightflow is for you. But ringleader comes with a homescreen wiget that shows what profile is active and switch between them!

Sounds like a keeper to me! I'll check out RingLeader Pro, thanks for the heads-up, dsignori.

Here's what worked for me:

- Settings --> sounds--> notification set to silent
- d/l My Profiles and change the notification sounds to what I want for each profile

I tested all my profiles and it works. I created a nighttime profile which has the ringtone with no change and the notification with no change (since the default is silent). I also created a regular profile which i changed the notification to a sound.

Can you explain the what you mean by "d/l My Profiles"?

Thanks.

Welcome. Nothing beats the old Blackberry sound profiles (until Google gets around to creating built-in ones in Android), but Ringleader Pro has worked really well for me for a year or 2 now. I would be lost without it. I use my cell for my work pager so I even have a profile for Night Page, where the only sound is an incoming text. It's very flexible.

Might want to take a look at PhoneWeaver.

Edit: I just installed PhoneWeaver. It completely rocks. This is the app you want. Last updated December 12, 2011. Release notes make specific reference to Gingerbread and high density screens. (Ringleader hasn't been updated in over a year)

There's the paid version and also a "PhoneWeaver Trial" which is fully functional with a 12 day period.

Hot Tip here: It also installs a 1x1 widget. Drop the widget on your home screen, open it up, hit the "..." options and then enable "autoexit." Made my day.

If this works for you, that is great. Ringleader works perfect for me, I don't know why the date of last update is relevant when the app works perfectly as is on ICS. This app - on the other hand - doesn't seem to solve the problem of SEPARATING notification volumes from Ringer volumes on ICS, which is the point of this thread. ...

First point: PhoneWeaver does allow you to have separate "notification" and "ringer" volumes for the phone. So I have a "night" setting where the phone will ring, but emails are silent. I have a day profile with noisy email notifications and phone ringer. So it elegantly solves the OP's problem. It also has a cool feature of manual profiles with countdown timers. It comes with a preconfiged (and customizable) profile that will mute all sounds for 1m:30m, and then revert.

Second point: Why are you defending RingLeader? RingLeader Pro has 1,000 - 5,000 installs lifetime and hasn't been updated in a year. It has 74 reviews. The paid version of PhoneWeaver has 508 reviews and 5,000 10,000 installs in the last 30 days. PhoneWeaver Pro average rating is 4.3 whereas RingLeader Pro average rating is 3.6.

Install the demo of PhoneWeaver and try it out. It's a much better product.

d/l = download

'My Profiles' is an app from the Market.

While I don't have a GN, I've used 'Quick Profiles' app on my OG Droid Incredible and now my Bionic. Absolutely LOVE this app and is so customizable to suit ALL your volume (or no volume!) needs.
It's free and maybe works on GN, not sure? Worth a free download perhaps? :)

Oy.. I am glad you like your app, and I am glad it works. I was just trying to help the OP here, not argue with you. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. If you are happy with the app, excellent. It's all good ..

Has anyone tried Quick Profiles (suggested a few posts up)?

Please re-post if this app works in ICS.

I have used this app for a few years and love it...but it does not work with ics. I just end up going into messages and gmail and silencing each before bed so I can still receive phone calls.

Has anyone tried Quick Profiles (suggested a few posts up)?

Please re-post if this app works in ICS.
