Anyway to separate notification volume from call volume?

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

you could use extended controls volume manager button ( uncheck use ringer volume as notification volume )

I'm bummed about this too. Like the OP I always turned down the notifications and left the ringer up for emergencies when going to bed. It was there on my Fascinate, it should be there on my Nexus......... REALLY hope they fix/change this soon......

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

in the market try volume settings by call droid. I used to use that on my Dinc1. Separates volumes and gives you customizable profiles. Night / work / etc.....

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

I am sorry but none of those options will work.

The ability to separate the notification volume and the ringer volume was a system level option. The various audio managers made use of that option to link or unlink them.

In ICS, they are no longer separate, and so the audio managers can not use them seprately. I have now tried 10 different audio managers on ICS and none of them can do it. Even if you do find on that displays them as separate and lets you change them sepratly, the minute you get a call or notification, you will see that it did not actually change one. If one is low, the other is low, and vice versa.

I use audio manager pro and it no longer works in this way. I am screwed because I HAVE TO have my phone beable to ring at night, but now every email, instant message, text go off too.

I wish I knew what the hell they were thinking at Google on this one.

I tried LIght Flow LIte version morning and it has a sleep setting that should allow you to turn off notifications but it again does not seem to solve the problem.

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

Yep - same here and it's a PITA they removed this functionality. Why would anyone link Ringer with Notifications - makes zero sense. Pretty much means I'll be going on Vibrate for large portions of the day.

WOW! That's a huge oversight! I wonder if phones like the Rezound will be able to work around this via a manufacturer overlay like Sense?

As far as I know, those phones will have the same problem. It is a core ICS option, not something a skin messes with. If you go to one of those phones, you will see the settings menus, while they may look different, still have the same options between all android phones. They can add to it, but they cant change what is already there really.

I was litterally 5 minutes from returning my nexus over this when I realized that once all these phones get their ICS updates, they will all have the same problem.

I am very unhappy with this and I am actually considering going to blackberry or Iphone on it (I dont know if Iphone does this better, but I am going to find out.)

Google screwed this one up. dIf I cant get word from google that this is going to be changed, I will be returning my nexus before January 15th and looking at the iphone or blackberry.

I too am looking for a solution here being on call. Huge issue with notification volume being tied to the ringer.

I have to have all notifications silent (configured in the messaging applications) until a solution is found.

Pretty large oversight here in ICS...

Just tap the "phone" logo in the sound control slider and it will switch to notifications.

That does not work for me. It just mutes the ringer...

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

I have the iPhone 4s while I wait for my GN to show up and from what I can tell on the iPhone, the ringer and alerts are tied together, while app/game sounds are separate.

It's annoying that for sure. I have various Android devices before I went with the 4s for a little while (I'm the mobile engineer at work so I am always switching devices and don't really have a favorite) and I used to always crank the text message sound and keep my ringer lower. I don't like them linked, but as phones start to go more mainstream, it probably causes less issues for new folks.. I dunno.

Re: Ring volume can not be separated from Notifications?

Yes that would be a problem. You have probably already checked. Any chance your messenger and text program have their own night seetings built in? I didn't see night setting in AIM but they did have an option to turn off sounds. In Handcent there is night mode but that is for screen not sounds, which doesn't help you. Maybe Go sms has option????

He is absolutely right the iphone has the same issue. My girlfriend has the iphone 4 and she was extremely frustrated by this. She needs calls because she is oncall for nursing but doesnt want notifications all night. That was one of the things she loved about android, she got used to it. i guess we will too.

All that does is change from noise to vibrate mode. It does not separate the notifications from the ringer volume.

I still cant believe Google screwed up something so basic. Some idiot who has never been on call in his life probably thought "OH hey, lets simplify the menu with one bar for all sounds. Who would need to separate them anyways!"

How do we bring this to Googles attention?
