APK

An APK is an Android packaged application. In order to install it, you'd simply download it to your device and run it (depending on how you downloaded it, your web browser might try to run it automatically, or you may need to go into "downloads" and select it).

In order to install anything not from the Google Play Store, you'll need to tell your Nexus it's OK to install APKs from unknown sources. This can be found in the Settings menu, under Security. Look for "Device Administration" / "Unknown Sources".

WARNING: Know your sources. Make sure the APK you download is coming from a legitimate source before installing it. The default setting is there to help protect you.

APK files are ZIP file formatted packages based on the JAR file format, with .apk file extensions.
