Apple: Get A Life!!!

You're in an admin-posted Apple bashing thread, what were you expecting to find, silly? And they're not really ramblings, it's kinda a fact. I can provide links to verified genuine discussions about Apple's business model by Apple execs if you care enough to request me to do so.

Is it really so crazy to think that it's sorta nuts that a Mac costs 3 times more than a PC with identical hardware? Is really reasonable for an Operating System to cost 3 times as much as the machine it's installed on?

That is a good question I would love to know since I was debating a new MacBook or windows 8

If you like Mac OS, Buy a PC Ultrabook with better specs, and install Mac OSX86. That gives you a MacBook that's just as sexy, cheaper, runs the latest Mac OS and has better specs.

That's furthering my point I know basically almost any Android can flash a vanilla rom but CURRENTLY Samsung is the only one that has it straight out the box

That's what I'm talking about, why don't Google have the manufactures push out more vanilla android phones. Or maybe make their UI skins hardly noticeable but has subtle features that contribute to vanilla android in a good way. Basically not overshadowing the pure google experience, and make the update process faster.

So in other words, they make products for people too stupid, or at the very least, too ignorant to use real technology.

You sound like someone who really wants to use Apple products, but doesn't because they want let you have your way with the software functionality.

And saying people are stupid, or ignorant at the very least speaks volumes about your character. Google, or Microsoft want change not one bit by your Apple trash talk. Nor will Apple lose any shares because you think their Company is so bad. There are to many people, corporations, and businesses that use Macs. When you look at commercials with computers involved notice their using a Mac instead of PC. Someone pointed that out to me a while ago. And since the company is so bad, then why are they the most admired? The list could continue, just saying.

Easier said then done and drivers and updates are a nightmare. If you want a mac buy a mac.

Could just buy a Mac and run Windows on it....the build quality of Macs is pretty amazing.

I've personally debated this since I bought a Macbook, but honestly, aside from gaming, Mac OSX fulfills my needs.

If i'm dual booting, I'm going Ubuntu, baby!

And just because Apple markets for "simple" people doesn't mean they don't innovate on the hardware side of things. For the most part Apple is always on the bleeding edge of CPU/GPU performance (no Android phone has used a faster GPU).

They were the first with a truly high-res, high quality display in a phone. They always have top notch camera performance.

So to say they don't innovate on the hardware side of things is just wrong. They have pushed all other manufacturers to improve hardware at a rate faster than in just about any other industry.

You don't have to like their business model, or agree with it, but look at financial performance and sales numbers. They are successful, and it's because of the business model and marketing, not because they go on and on about specs (they actually downplay specifics about specs on purpose). They've never had to say "our GPU performs X amount of calculations per second" they say things like "twice the performance of last years iPhone." That's why they are successful. They say things in easy to understand terms. Nobody cares if their phone does 200mflops, but they do care if it's twice as much as what's currently in their hand.

Every company also has the right to defend their IP, but I do disagree with how Apple is going about it. I'm sure theirs more to the story, but the One X and Evo LTE getting delayed at customs shouldn't have happened. The software was changed to no longer violate that particular IP, yet we still saw a delay. :-\

You have to agree they dropped the ball in terms of innovation for Iphone 4s though, Kevin. I mean, it's a Iphone 4 spruced up, sans Siri.

I hate to ever give credit to Gizmodo, but they had a decent "article" about how they're starting to deviate from the norms under Jobs. Debuting a phone with a gimmick, one that Jobs either didn't care for or did not want, is one of those deviations.

Same as when they went from the 3G to the 3GS. So not anymore than they dropped the ball then. Difference is they focused more on performance when they announced the 3GS, as opposed to the 4S, where they focused on SIRI.

The 4S stayed with typical Apple. They like to keep form factors around for a while (relatively speaking, of course, but keeping a phone design the same for two years is a LONG time), to maximize recognition and accessory sales, and because typically a brand-new design on an iPhone leaps ahead of the competition. Whether that'll be true this year isn't known, and Android phones have evolved by leaps and bounds.

I'm not trying to defend Apple, per se, but they are in it to make money, which they are doing more successfully than just about any other company in the world. That IS the mark of success for any business.

Especially when you hear people say that "the 4S is REQUIRED for Siri."

No it's not! Before Apple purchased Siri, Siri was an app on the app store that installed on all the iPhones! The only requirement the 4S has is another infrared sensor that detects when the phone is picked up/put close to your face.

I'm sorry but comments like this make we want to rage. I sound like someone who wants to use Apple products except for functionality? Well, you're half right. I don't want their software. But without software a Mac is exactly and I do mean EXACTLY the same hardware-wise as a PC. So, no, I don't want to use macs, I like my 8-core beast with 24 gigs of ram and an AMD 7990, a machine more powerful than any mac by light-years.

And when you "LOOK AT COMMERCIALS"?! I mean come on! You do understand what a commercial is right? It's something somebody (Apple) pays to have on TV to make people want their stuff, which in your case apparently worked. And I don't think they are the most admired, or they would have more than 7 percent of the computer market.

I disagree completely, the Blackberry Bold 9000 had a beautiful, amazing screen when the Iphone was still ugly and pixelated. You had to really look to see pixels. But in the phone market I would say they innovate more hardware wise than software wise, it's focus more on making them "hip" that I don't like. It's the PC market, and Mac OS that really riles me. Macs are 2 year old PC hardware being sold as if they were from 2 years in the future.

Could just buy a Mac and run Windows on it....the build quality of Macs is pretty amazing.

Or you could buy a PC and run Mac on it. Or one of the numerous Mac Clones available that update just fine and have zero driver problems. The Mac is going to cost way more, for inferior PC hardware. How can macs have a higher build quality? They use exactly the same hardware mid-to-high end PCs did 2 years ago. Intel and Nvidia don't make better quality components just for Apple. The only difference is Apple fuses it all together, with proprietary plugs making it a huge mess to upgrade your system components without buying a whole new machine.

I don't know, I think the reason I dislike Mac so much is that back in the 80's, I used to love Apple. They truly innovated. My first Mac was an Apple 2, followed by a Mac Classic. There was no argument that at that point in time, microsoft robbed intellectual property from them on a massive scale, because at that time, they had THE BEST software and it was worth stealing. They were cutting edge, putting out machines that had software that allowed you to experiment with everything software could do at the time. But many years ago they sold the soul of their company to survive. I think it was around the time Macs stopped running PowerPC CPUs and became PCs (literally) with a terribly crippled OS. When's the last time you heard of cutting edge software being designed on a mac? The answer is a long time ago.

And sorry Kevin, if this is a little out of range, I know I should probably be focusing more on Apple's mobile side, as this is a mobile site.

So, in essence, Mac stopped innovating when Woz stopped caring? ;)

Interesting - I did not know that.

Yep! Siri (software) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siri was launched first as an application available on Apple's App Store in the United States. It integrated with services such as OpenTable,[12] Google Maps,[13] MovieTickets and TaxiMagic.[14] Using voice recognition technology from Nuance[15] and their service partners, users could make reservations at specific restaurants, buy movie tickets or get a cab by dictating instructions in natural language to Siri. Siri was acquired by Apple on April 28, 2010,[4] and the original application ceased to function on October 15, 2011

Good ol' Apple..
